Old tried an true prevails in battle again

“old tried and true prevails in battle”.....uh....no. that bear was probably false charging him, and still could have had him had it wanted him; evidenced by the fact that they didnt find the bear.

If you consider this “prevailing”, then we have different definitions of the word. Had the bear been killed on the spot, yup. But it wasnt. Were it me, i’d be re-examining my ammo/ carry choice.

A fellow never knows what situation you might find yourself in. And when you do find yourself in a situation, chances are super high that it is not one you envisioned or saw coming; so your plans usually go to shit before it even has started. It is best to have ammo that is going to take care of whatever task you ask of it. Even if that means staggering ammo type. And yes, i do.
Handguns like his are for self protection, nothing more. Did he survive yes he did. Staggering ammo in a handgun is no longer needed with Underwood in the game.

Fucking finally.
The voice of reality and reason.

And another thing.

I had more important shit to do yesterday or I woulda posted.

I was being funny with the hillbilly pimp thing....but not the pearly grips....that's just fucking tacky shit you'd expect from.....a pimp or meth dealer.
Which brings us to....

He did SOMETHING really stupid. He ran his mouth the wrong way, said the wrong thing, talked about how bad ass his 1911 was, something.
Gatlinburg cops didn't charge him Willy nilly, count on it.

There is a hell of a lot more to the story.....like....emptying his fucking gun.
Do you guys commenting with raging hard ons in here, have you ever seen a fucking black bear?

The guy shit his pants and started firing. After the first round hit the bear, the "charge" was over.
They charged him with the wrong thing. Stupidity isn't a crime unfortunately.

I’ve been so close to a 450lb+ black bear, with nothing between us but VERY thin air, that i coulda reached out and touched it. And i was in that state of mind where everything is in super slow motion. It was dicey as fuck and if it never happens again, it’ll be too soon. I was indeed armed, and we both left the situation unscathed. Cooler heads prevailed.
I also have a video of me chasing a bear out of my yard, it’s about 30 yards away....i think that one was 250-300ish. I’ll try posting it here.

At any rate, blackies are less of a threat than a deer. This is fact. Can they fuck you up? Yup. But they are pretty docile animals. I’m with @armorpl8chikn , there is more to this story i strongly suspect.

@Gunfighter14e2 ..... i wouldnt know anything about underwood other than i’d have to buy it, which means it isnt a handload of mine, which means i will never fire it. A quality Hardcast followed by a hollowpoint, then H.C., then HP....you get the idea. I carry a tiny 357, and that gun has done EVERYTHING i have asked of it. I have full faith in that gun/ammo combination. I’ve no doubt, that if i ever called on it to do in a black bear, it would.

I've got bears in my yard regularly, like 20-30 times a year.

Only time I've really been scared was when two cubs were in pine saplings on the bank behind the house here.

Momma come around the side of the house popping her teeth. Me and the dogs hit the door like the three stooges.

I've had a few bears "surprise" me in the yard, and to shit ones pants is human, to go full retard blasting off your foty fibe, is just....well.....retarded.

There is ZERO need or desire for me to use anything other than what’s tried and true. If it isnt broke, dont fix it. The bullets i use serve me well. I’ll put my hardcasts up against any other bullet out there in real world terminal effect out of a handgun.
The thing i think that surprises me most about all of what i’ve learned through the years....with hardcasts, most handguns are way overpowered. the 357, 41, and 44...full throttle isnt really necessary and actually counter productive in most cases. And that the 357 is vastly under rated in killing power. The lionshare of my experience is with that because it is what i always have on me.
the same applies to the 45....my favorite 45acp load was a 250 gr. Keith style semi wadcutter. That load was no bullshit and what i’d carry if i were still into the autos. My 1911 ate them without any problems. No high pressure, no abusing the gun. But a serious load. Had the Hero of this story been loaded up with those, that bear would have been dead really quick.

You dont need an expensive bullet to get it done. Just a quality bullet. People often confuse one for the other. A good hardcast bullet is not all that expensive; but it is very effective.

There is a 15% off sale going on for Underwood as well as a 15% off for Fort Scott

Then if you need to make a significant other happy Stargazer cast iron skillets is doing a 25% off sale.

I have had a lot of success with Kaido Ojamaa flat nose hunting conicals. They are 240 grain, .456 diameter out of the mold, and feature two lube grooves around the base.

I picked up a Kaido mold a few years back at an N-SSA swap meet and instantly ran a batch of 240 grainers as soon as I got home to be tested out of multiple platforms. They were originally designed for use in black powder revolvers but they work perfectly well in moderate velocity straight wall cartridges, .45 ACP included. Keep your loads under 1200 FPS and you wouldn't need to remotely worry about "leading" your bores. Incredible ballistic performance and energy transfer upon hitting the target. I use a heavy steel 'Evil Roy' cowboy silhouette target out to 100 yards. At 25, all of my regular black powder and smokeless loads make a good splat and ring on Roy, but the Kaido rounds at 1000 FPS actually knocked Roy over flat onto the ground.

Black bear just killed a MN woman, 36 or so dead from black bears since 1990, who knows how many more attacks.
I live with them around my immediate house as well, like licking the trail cam on the stairs on my back door immediate.

I understand not wanting bears, or any animal for that matter, to be shot in "self defense" when not absolutely needed. I'd hate to have to kill an animal in defense, it would sicken me.

However, I wouldn't expect someone to risk their or their families life gambling that it's a bluff charge. I'm not expecting somebody to have to dodge a swing before shooting. And I get that some will say that you learn their behavior and can see subtle nuances in this and that, I can't expect that of normal people. I also can't expect that they're noticing all that through what may be terror and adrenaline fueled tunnel vision.

Play stupid games win stupid prizes comes to mind, I get they aren't human, nonetheless, your bluff is being called by heavy lead.

And I hate the idea that someone is just out crying wolf to kill bears or whatever in "self-defense" as much as anyone, which happens. Still can't justify the idea that we just assume they're harmless and that it's a bluff.

I don't know exactly what to think about the original post case.

That is all reasonable and fair. I agree with every bit of that. I believe there is more to the story that we are not getting from the side that is telling this tale.

If you research how many people have been killed by deer in the same period, you’ll find deer are far more dangerous. Yet deer do not evoke the same fear in people that black bears do. People’s imaginations run wild. Add the internet, and holy shit.....you have the deadliest animal that the planet has ever seen.....the internet bear. Comedy always ensues.

I'm not crying for the bear, we have shit tons of them, I couldn't care less about the bear. I do hate that bear suffered greatly before he died, unnecessarily.

I'm gonna be honest....
When I first saw the guys picture, I thought it was an old hunting buddy of mine....I still ain't sure it wasn't him, and names were changed to protect the stupid. I know he was in Gatlinburg at the same time, and owns a Kimber, and he has a girlfriend that he calls his wife, and ain't the sharpest tool in the box, etc..... Lemme see that pic again....
Fucking dead ringer....it's creepy.

Pearly grips.....on a 1911....fuck.

There is way more to the story. It'll probably never be told, but there is a lot more to the story.

At some point in life I used to dive in close proximity to a large assortment of sharks. Didnt bother me but telling people about some encounters, some always freaked out. Same thing having to explain how distorted human perception is. They kill 9-10 humans on the whole planet a year and almost always mistaken identity with just a test bite. Mosquitoes are good for 2,000,000 dead a year these days (and about 52 billion in human history by recent estimates) but guess what folks are scared of?

I was raped by a black bear twice . The third time was consentual .

ooh....that reminds me....

frank decided to go bear hunting. he gets out to his spot, and about an hour later, out comes a black bear. frank shoots the bear. two seconds later, he feels a tap on his shoulder. he turns, and there is a grizzly bear. the grizzly says “frank, that was my cousin...” and proceeds to rape frank. frank wakes up in the hospital.

frank vows revenge.

when he is released, he goes back to the same spot, finds that bear, and shoots him. seconds later, another tap on the shoulder. this time, it’s a grizzly bear. the grizzly says “that was my cousin, frank...” and proceeds to ass rape him. again, frank wakes up in the hospital. and vows revenge.

he is released, goes back to the same spot, and finds the grizzly, and shoots him. seconds later, there is a tap on the shoulder. frank turns to find a polar bear. the polar bear says “..admit it frank, you dont come here for the hunting...”

This is why you don't talk to the police. They should have high tailed it out of there shortly after the incident just like criminals that get a free pass.
Except only the libtard criminals get said pass, actual good citizens get the fucking book thrown at them with the kitchen sink. Be nice to have the privileges illegals and gangbangers get. Alas Im not enough of a lowlife scum to get that.
