Older Remington 700 actions

I have noticed that older Rem 700 actions seem to be thought of as superior to new ones and very desirable for builds.

What makes them better (if in fact they are) and what production years are considered the best?

there not any better, other than the j-lok crap remington had out on the newer actions. only other thing i can think of is that the older actions had better finishes or blueing. the new sps have a cheaper finish. even with that said i see no real differece. some might make a trigger argument, and they may be right?? lee

The biggest reason people want the older actions is if they are wanting to build a correct M40 series rifle.
