One in the chamber?

1. If anyone needs to reference that video to learn that it takes longer to draw-rack-shoot than it does to draw-shoot, find a reputable shooting school to attend. Or just consider how long it takes to do two things, then wonder if it might really take longer to do those two things in addition to a third thing.

2. To repeat whomever said that someone trying to kill you might approach a little faster than that... someone who is trying to kill you will bear down on you faster than that. Like more than twice as fast:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tueller_Drill

3. 1.89 seconds to draw and first shot? Good fucking luck. Running might be a better option for this guy but he probably moves his feet slower than he shoots. See # 2 above and wonder how many times he could be stabbed in the face while still getting his gun on target. See #1 above and start practicing, with a timer.

4. Taking 1.8 seconds for 7 shots? Good fucking luck. See #1 above and practice some more, probably daily.

I won't waster more time with #s 5, 6, 7...

That video is for people who don't shoot.

Well said sir..

Not to mention, this is in a very controlled environment and very specific perameters. Obviously it is simply a demonstration and not indicative of a real life situation. I hope no one (including myself) is ever involved in a self defense shooting, but if you were, I’d bet that the “time to first shot” would be much higher than what was shown in this video. The stress and possible surprise of a real life situation would, I imagine, yield even worse results.

Never drove in PR so I wouldn't know. There are way worse places than Boston. As soon as you learn not to give in; Boston is easy. NYC is nothing compared to Boston. Everything is in a grid and drivers are tame...even the cabbies in NYC are pussies.

Agreed. I drinen in NYC, LA, Chicago, and Mexico DF. Austin is worse than any of those. They should take away about half the DL's and give them mopeds. But in Boston, the sheer rudeness and disrespect was amazing. People putting down their windows and threatening each other. I Just intentionally and for no good reason making it impossible for you to make a turn. I grew up where when you were a kid an exciting Saturday night was sitting and watching the fireflies and lintening to the trees gow. I think Ill pass on Boston.

SJ is not that bad , Rome is the worst. El Salvador.

I spent a week in El Salvador on my way back from Costa Rica. Beautiful country, sweetest people in the world. they call their country "El Pais del Snorisa Eternal". The coutry of the eternal smile. But yoour right about the driving. El Salvadoran Roulette.

When my in-laws came to visit us from CA, they were practically in tears. They kept saying..."we would use our blinker to change lanes and people would speed up, cut us off and give us the finger"!...

We do give rude a new meaning...SOME of us that is

Ignorance I suppose. I’ve seen it several times, usually from leo’s carrying a pistol with no real safety.

And it's usually the ones who just started shaving who lose their fucking minds securing your "dangerous" weapon. 99 out of 100 have never handled a 1911, making them the dangerous bit.

Naples Italy back in 86 when we were dropping bombs on some fellas front door.
Driving through there with a pucker factor of 12.
Watched a pair of new cars (Mercedes and a BMW) sideswipe each other. They just separated and kept driving like nothing happened. Watching cars bump each other, motorcycles getting run off the road sure made for some entertainment.

Cocked, all chambers loaded. Don't believe what the safety nuts say.

You're going to walk around with a COCKED S&W revolver in your holster?

Please stop giving advice before someone gets injured or killed. And put that fucking hammer down where it belongs.

Holster? Please! I just shove it in my belt. I've been doing this for decades. The time saved using SA versus DA has saved my live countless times.

Pull my finger.

Vp9sk and a vp 40, both chambered with hammer down.

If you have the hammer down, then you have a P30 / P30SK not the VP series.
The VP series is HK finally giving into all those that want something "like a Glock", they are striker fired with no hammer and no external safety options.
(Hence why I don't carry them even though I have them as part of my HK collection).

duh yeah P30 SK hammer down, the 40 has one in chamber ready to fire, I really like having a hammer, psychological really. I got the p30 ster I bought a vp 9 and vop 40 as I found both the VP a bit tough to fit in my gun vest while riding, more about me being fat than the vest holding both pistols, with the p30 both fit no probs. Antelope Creek gun vest. http://antelopecreekleather.com/mens...ng/mens-vests/

It's funny that all the internet badass gun guys strongly voice their "fully loaded and cocked" way of carrying. Why? Are you walking through the south side of Chicago at 2am? Or are you at the park with your kids? If 1, yes, I agree on having one in the chamber. If 2, wait til you drop your loaded gun because you bought the $20 walmart special holster while pushing your kid on a swing, some other kid comes up and picks up the gun, all because you thought it was really necessary to have one in the chamber while playing with your kids at the 20,000-population-town park with 5 other people present. Use common sense in evaluating risk and whether there is actually a threat, or if you're just carrying one in the chamber, just to say you're "carrying one in the chamber".

It's been a while since I've read something so stupid here.

Do one or the other. If you carry and train with an empty chamber, what good does chambering it every once in a while do?

If you really want to be safe, carry empty and have your wife carry the mag in her purse.

What good does carrying with a round in the chamber do at the local diner with ~10 customers that I've been going to for 20 years? If I had a reason to be concerned (if for some odd reason in my small town a violent crime had occurred and no suspect yet found), then, yea, I may deem it worth my time to chamber. If I'm driving through the shitty part of town, again I'd chamber.

I have found that those who advocate so strongly for "cocked and locked" are some of the most ignorant and embarrassing firearms owners; we don't live in an active war zone, doubt any of you are raiding more than the fridge.

You and I may be perfectly fine carrying loaded, but I'm not dumb enough to advocate it to every Glock carrying po-dunk who has someone read this for them. There is more risk in them carrying their firearm loaded than there is likelihood of them needing to use it 3 seconds sooner and stopping a threat for the good of society.

I wasn't advocating either way. I do think it's not a good idea to carry on an empty most of the time and then chamber every once in a while. How to you train for that? Are you really going to remember that This Time, I don't have to chamber on draw? Bad idea IMHO.

I'm having trouble pinpointing exactly what the risk is vs risk factors. I'm also not sure by what is meant by "fully loaded" and if that is a risk in and of itself. If I carry a commander sized 1911 "fully loaded" with seven in the mag and one in the chamber is there a different risk profile than if it were less than "fully loaded" with, say, six in the mag? What if I am "half loaded"? By this I mean if I take a 140mm MBX and only put in 10 rounds of 40 am I at less risk by being at 50% capacity? And is that risk exactly proportional to the actual # roundsloaded : theoretical capacity? For God's sake, what is significant about "fully loaded"? I kind of want to defer to the "What Are you Drinking Now" thread to answer this question.

So you're saying the risk is with cheaping out on the holster in Chicago or in a town of 20K, or both? And I can't tell in which city the park is located (parks, kids, and the south side of Chicago are not mutually exclusive - I would post a Venn diagram but Frank hasn't bolted on such graphical capabilities). Carrying in Chicago could offer some legal risks, to be sure. As far as buying a cheap one from Wal-Mart, they were probably made in China. I said what I thought about Chinese manufacturing in another thread and I think you are making a bold political statement here. But how does it cause you to drop your gun? Is it because it's flimsy or maybe that people who buy such holsters are overly thrifty and don't even train, or maybe they just hate America? I'm going with the last one. God bless Milt Sparks.

Anyway, thank you for your post. I just don't know what you meant by it.

I laugh every time this shit comes up. It's not even debatable, but people do.

My Duty weapon and every other Semi-Auto I own are ready for pew with nothing but a sight picture and trigger pull. All my Revolvers are double action and the number of Boolitz coincide with the number of Cylinder Holes it has. Only under certain circumstances is one not under the Hammer. You can come up with your own good reasons for that, but mine have nothing to do with putting me at a disadvantage. It's a transport issue.

Carry on you crazed maniacs.

What is the time/date/location of your next gunfight?
