All, I have a dumbass question...so let me start by saying "I'm sorry".
I was basically "gifted" a ruger hawkeye long range target in 6.5CM with a vortex hst 6-24 scope. High rings or maybe extra high...
The ruger has a 20moa pic rail on the action.
Took it to the range to zero/group at 100yd then started to walk it out.
Got out to 800yd on 20in steel easy enough. Went to dial up the next which is 24in steel at 1350yd. Problem is I ran out of elevation adjustment and topped out the scope. Didnt have enough hold over in the reticle either...
Anyways, had a nighforce 20moa one piece mount laying around so I swapped out the rings for the one piece.
The distance from bore axis to center of objective is about the same as it was with the high rings. This is because the mount is overall lower than the rings despite the extra 20moa.
Is there any real drawbacks to using the 20moa one piece as opposed to the "standard" rings?
Given calculations via strelok the extra 20moa should be enough to get me to the 1350, which is the goal in this case.
But again looking for any drawbacks that maybe I am missing?
