Some of the best marksmen in the USA were there. The difficulty and the skill on display was impressive.
Shot in 40mph wind on Friday at the check-in/check-zero. That was an eye opener. The rest of the match the wind was about 15-25, but it would let off and gust, swirl in the draws, slam down over the ridges, and you had to be vigilant or it would completely screw you. I stayed with an old friend in Tulsa. Appearently I drank the better part of a bottle of barrel strength Bulleit on Friday night. Didn’t mean to, it just kinda happened...
Pro Tip: this is not a good idea before a match. I was miserably hungover all day. I kept thinking I would get over it, but it actually got worse after lunch. The weak side, left eye stage actually made me ill and I thought I might puke. Even so, I shot pretty good! I’m very happy with the results even though I zeroed two stages today.
The wind was big, and strong, and pushed me around like a bully. I learned a lot at this match, and as a result I’m adding a bunch of things to my training.
My only disappointment, and it’s a minor one, was not getting an impact @ 1,500 yards on the longest stage. I drop transonic @ 1,380 yds so it’s kind of a musket ball at that distance with my PRS rig. I was at 16.5 mils, and my scope revs out at 16.9. I dialed (I rarely dial wind) 5.7 mils of wind, which was correct. I was banging all around the target right from the first shot, most right over or under, but no impact. Oh well, at least I was in the neighborhood the whole time. I watched some people never get close, because it’s so hard to see misses through a scope at that distance. Your can see a lot more through the “Spotting” scope.
Again, wow. Thanks to everyone who put this one on and ROed it. I had a blast!
