I need some help. I am considering purchasing a custom 338 LM rifle with the AI AX chassis system. (Actually, it's this one: http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=3469379&gonew=1#UNREAD). I've never had an AX chassis and would like some user feedback. If you have experience with RWS Gunsmithing that would be a plus too. What I'm looking for is:

    1. How durable is the AX system overall?
    2. How robust is the foldable buttstock hinge?
    3. If you have used this system in comps, how has it performed?

    Thanks

The AX is bombproof as far as I can tell, just like any other AI product. You won't have to baby it at all. As an example, there are something like a dozen screws holding the barrel shroud to the chassis... The whole thing is rock solid.

The folding hinge is also bombproof. When locked closed, you can't feel any wiggle at all. It might as well be a fixed stock. A little nub on the left side of the chassis allows you to lock the stock open so it doesn't flop around.

I have not shot any comps, but I have no complaints about the system's durability or suitability to precision shooting.
