Re: Opinions on Rock River Elite Comp
Hey Santo,
The Elite Comp is very similiar to the Elite Operator 2.
Some of the differences are:
-Chrome lined barrel- Rock River reports a loss of 1/2 Moa in accuracy opposed to chrome-molly. It will last longer and is easier to clean; if you plan for a higher rate of fire that may be a good choice. I'm not going to light a match for this fire... (Chrome lined vs Molly) but the chrome-molly works well for many of my needs. I believe it is a general consensus that their accuracy claims are fairly modest, however in speaking with them in the past they have mentioned that the chrome lining does (in a small way) effect accuracy.
-You also get a flip rear sight (i believe A.R.M.S.) opposed to choosing from the fixed sight options (not that much of a bonus for the increased price).
The other difference is the ability to customize. The operator 2 series cannot be modified and is why it ends up being a much better deal in my opinion. You have to opt and pay extra for chrome BCG etc... There are only a few things to choose from.
Things that are the same:
-Heavy 16" barrel 1:9 twist
-Hand guards
-Gas block w/ flip sight & rail (unfortunately with the ridiculous set of swivels)
-Ergo pistol grip
-Star ambi selector
-Winter trigger guard
-RRA tactical muzzle brake
-Operator stock
-RRA NM trigger
It really boils down to how important the chrome lining is to you. If I were in your shoes, I would look at starting with a different model more custom and ditch some of the unneeded parts if the chrome is important. If you can get a good deal on this I would consider it a different story, the operator 2 offers most of the features it has for substantially less. I wish they would have just offered a chrome lined version of that in the first place.
The ATH and Predator Pursuit both have their nice SS barrels and are chambered in a faster 1:8 twist for heavier ammo.
Again, good luck to you-
