I have a Remington .308 with B&C Medalist stock and 20 in barrel and am in the market for an optic. I am caught between a Bushnell HDMR, 3.5-24 XRS or 4.5-30 XRS all with H59 or TRMR2 Reticle. I plan on shooting out to about 1k but with all the options its hard to just choose one. The reticle is not up for debate, I have shot these at work and have learned to use them, i find them to be quick and efficient. Mainly i would like to know some thoughts on if i should go with a higher power or just stick with the HDMR since the price point is far less then the others. All input is geartly appreciated.

I'd stick with the HDMR for the value. You probably won't ever need more than 20x for 1000 yard shots, so either mag range is fine. I'm of the opinion that magnification over 25x needs a bigger objective than 50mm, as spotting scopes have.

I've not felt the need for more magnification than 24x, even out past 1100yds. Not being familiar with the optical quality of the Bushnells you're considering, I don't have an opinion on the worth of a 30X scope from them. But optical quality becomes an ever increasing factor as magnification goes up; if you're happy with what you've seen out of the 24x Bushy, then I'd be inclined to stick with that instead of going up to the 30x model.

I wanna thank you guys for the quick reply, i was leaning towards the HDMR anyway for my 6.5 Grendel but it wont be done till i get my side chargin gupper in Aug.... so i might as well get the HDMR shoot it on the .308 then if i want something more later upgrade after my 6.5 is done.. thanks again for the replies..
