New here, been reading alot of posts here and other places for awhile now. Finally getting around to making a post

so be nice, and hopefully get some good first hand feedback!

On to the question

Looking for a combination or stand alone optic system for a 22wmr carbine.
My first inclination was some form of rds but looking at balistics I feel confident that with a little practice I could ding varmits confidently at 200yds on the top end but didn't want to lose the cq esq for fun target shooting.

So the question/feedback im hoping to find is combination rds + ???? What magnification module do people think here? I've looked at some 3x, 1-4x (stand alone but seems to have poorer target aquisition for speed at cq), 2-5x etc..
*edit*
If stand alone im looking for 3x-5x top end magnification with a good fov for cq.. so recommend away

My personal experience is primarily in more open terrain/higher power scopes (100-400+yrd shots) and usually iron sights/the occasional rds so feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Re: optic question for 22wmr carbine

I had a nice Savage bolt gun, in .22 WMR, topped off with a Bushnell Banner series that was 3-9 x 40mm. It did pretty good out to 200 yards with decent clarity. Seriously, you can put anything you want on your gun, but for the .22 WMR I feel as though 9x magnification is sufficient. This is just my opinion here and not an "experts" advise.

Re: optic question for 22wmr carbine

I have a 3x9 on my 597 remington 22wmr and it works fine for 200 yds.
200 yds is pushing it for 4 x magnification on varmints . I have plugged coyotes at that range with my colt carbine and acog but the rimfire demands better shot placement .

Re: optic question for 22wmr carbine

Thanks, think im going to opt for a 1-4x and see how tight of groups I can pull at ranges between 150-200 and decide comfortable cut off point from there. in either case plenty far for a fun/plink rifle
