I got an Arsenal SGL-21 with the Russian reciever mounted QD scope rail. I want to hook something to it. Its not a sniper rifle but a standard assault/defense weapon.(25 to 400 yard gun) Believe it or not, these Arsenal AK's are REMARKABLY accurate. I have one of the Kalinka Optics AK scopes for it. It was shooting amazingly well with the scope but 2 rounds in every one of my 5 shot groups were going either high or low by 1 to 3 inches. The other 3 shots were printing inside and inch!!(And for those of you who think Im lying about this group size, with all do respect, Fuck Off And Die.
The Arsenals are NOT you average AK) Anyway, These two flyers were seriously f&%$ing up my nice groups!!
I looked the scope over and discovered the objective bell segment of the scope body was moving up and down quite alot and you could see the POA change when looking through the scope while wiggling the objective. So now that I know this weapon and my eyes would benefit from a good optic its time to get one.
Problem is, I want an optic that can be quickly aquired for close in shots but also be enough to at least be able to see a target at a standard assault rifles max range. Ive been looking at the Leupold Tactical Prismatic 1x14mm and the VXR Patrol 1.25-4x20mm. They are both nice scopes and with the glass etched reticles and the illumination, they are not battery dependant like a red dot but can be used effectively in low light. Im not sure if its worth having the finger turrets and variable power of the VXR, but its kinda nice to be able to zoom in, whereas the prismatic is basically a red dot with a glass etched reticle. Any suggestions? Has anyone used either of these scopes before? Are the VXR's good quality? What about the Prismatic?
Also. What do you all think is the best side rail scope mount for the AK. Ive been looking at the Midwest Industries mount and it looks rugged and has the good mounting clamp system. Has anyone tried/liked any other scope mount for the AK?
Thanks very much for the input. BA
