I REALLY don't like people that blast their products all over the net (Amazon, etc.) and say they have something in stock (>10) and they haven't had any in stock for like 2 months..... That really aggravates me especially considering this is the last thing I'm waiting for so I can take my new toy out to the range....

Re: Optics Planet.....

Oh, and before someone says something about, "Why didn't you call them first?" I did, and ended up paying more money for something extra I didn't really need. Really not cool.... Whatever I guess this was God's way of saying, "You need the better one, cheapskate."

Re: Optics Planet.....

Buy once cry once? That sucks, I am sorry to hear about your issue. On the opposite end of the spectrum I just ordered something from Botach.com (notoriously shitty CS same issue you just had) and it shipped the next day. Just goes to show you never can tell. Best of luck!

Re: Optics Planet.....

I almost expect an email from them if I order something stating how they have millions in inventory, but the very popular product you ordered in out of stock. I haven't run into that with SWFA recently, so give them a try.

EGW 20 moa base. Just didn't want to pay for the HD version of it, but that's the only one they ACTUALLY had in stock for short action Remington 700. It's okay, I took it as a sign, and through some contemplation I realized God was probably trying to tell me to get the nicer base to go with the nice rings and scope I plan to have within the next two or three months. As the poster said earlier in reply, "Buy once, cry once."

Re: Optics Planet.....

Wow, they email me saying they couldn't get my order out because they needed me to send funds through paypal for the difference.... I already payed for the order through paypal originally and told them to charge the difference to the same account from the original method of payment.... customer service didn't even know why there was an issue. Another day lost... smh

Re: Optics Planet.....

no f*kin doubt.

Greetings from OpticsPlanet.com!
Thank you for your order. We apologize, but your order has been temporarily placed on hold because we have just run out of stock

YOU JUST MISSED THE LAST ONE!!! YOU WILL BE PLACED IN LINE FOR THE NEXT ONE THAT COMES IN!!! ...two weeks later..., "No, we're sorry sir. We haven't had any of our 4 last orders of 40 units in the past two months filled by the manufacturer." WTF?!?!?!

Re: Optics Planet.....

Not to threadjack, but what is the real difference in the egw hd vs. Regular base? Is the hd just stouter? I've got one of their HD bases on my 10fp but it was purchased for the same reason, it was in stock and I figured what the heck.

Re: Optics Planet.....

Hey, could have been like me, ordered an HSRC LE 44 from OpticsPlanet, paid for 2nd day shipping, two days later I got an HSRC LE, about a foot longer than my rifle. I called, got it sent back, they said they'd get the correct one out, two weeks later still no HSRC LE 44. I call again, the one I sent back is waiting to be inspected... I call back a week later, it's been inspected buy they don't have any HSRC LE 44's in green so I'll have to wait. Okay. Two weeks later they show the HSRC LE 44 available in MultiCam so I call and have it switched, they do it no charge but they're still out of stock. A month later I get an e-mail saying my order is cancelled since the HSRC 44 can only be ordered in quantities of 25 due to Eagle changing their policies... I got all my cash refunded as well as the shipping (after a long phone call).

Later I found a shop that had an HSRC LE 44 in green in stock but for $100 more, didn't care, bought it, but never got a chance to use it. Over six months later I see the company is offering the HSRC LE 44 in khaki which I like even better. I take a chance and call to see if they'd exchange my unused green one for the khaki. No problem, just pay the shipping and it's a done deal. That customer service was worth the extra $100 I paid.

Actually...

I was working with them this week and ordered pretty much the same exactly rail, and until I got my ordered processed and completed, I had the notice in my account it was on backorder. Would have been great to know before I placed my order.

MidWayUSA, and other sites actually post updates on their sites that they are either in stock, out of stock for good, or capable of backorder.

I sent several PM's trying to get updates on when it would be shipping, with no returns, etc., and ended up having to call yesterday and cancel because I found another company who had them in stock.

I am all for supporting our site contributors, and I am not a trouble maker, BUT, as the consumer I have to also look out for my best interests.

Just to add:
I will purchase other products from SWFA, they have great deals usually and are top of the line, but I will call to make sure they are in stock first before punching in my numbers.

Re: Optics Planet.....

Ouch!

We don't actually have in-stock/out of stock tags for products on our website because our website is built on a stone age platform. We're willing to admit that it stinks. Don't think for a second it makes us happy to have to send out of stock emails to customers, because we still have cancellations to deal with, and worse, unhappy customers.

We're working on it. We're working on upgrading our web platform, but with 500,000 products and over a million pages, it's taking longer than we'd like. And every consultant has a great idea of how we can tackle the problem until they get here and understand what they are dealing with. So we're working on it internally. On the web side, we'll eventually have a brand new redesigned site with better indication of in-stock/out-of-stock and even more important, estimated time to ship. On the offline side, we've already made a lot of changes to how we stock and manage inventory in order to ensure more orders go out within 48 hours. We recently added about another 30,000 sq. feet of warehouse space, and we're looking to get more. If any of you have a great deal on warehouse space in the Chicago area, send me a PM

At the same time, we understand that promises for the future don't alleviate frustrations suffered today and in the past. As mentioned in this thread, you can always call or use live chat to check stock status of an item before you order it - we're not trying to hide whether something is in or out of stock, we're just limited by our website. As far as Amazon or any other place we sell, I'll bring it to the attention of the manager that handles all that. I know those sites only update every 24 hours, but it should be extremely rare that something is listed on those sites and is out of stock.

If there's anything specifically we can help with, doesn't hesitate to shoot us a PM. We'll do what we can, or at least point you in the right direction to get your problem taken care of.

Also, maybe we should re-write our out of stock email to be a little more informative. Would that actually help?

Thank you for a response, to be quite honest I really didn't expect one on here. I was just venting my frustrations about having to wait a little longer to finish my build. Yeah, they definitely dropped the ball on Amazon.com because just yesterday or the day before it was showing on there that you had nine in stock...

Re: Optics Planet.....

I recently purchased an item from OP and was informed the next day that it was on backorder due to high demand for the product. They told me they were expecting more in seven to ten days but I had one on my porch in five. Smiles all around.

Re: Optics Planet.....

I've had no problem with purchases from Optics Planet. What I do when ordering I think prevents problems. I do this because I have read alot of negative comments regarding Optics Planet.

First thing I do when I call is ask for clerks name and email address.

Ash them if they have the item I want in stock and available for immediately shipment, like within the next 3 days. I explain to them that if item is not shipped within 3 days it will be of no use to me and I will order from another vendor.

I tell them they will recieve an email confirming the terms of the sale.

Never had a problem with them other than a defectively designed item which I called them about, explained how it was defective and Optic Planet issued a shipping tag that I printed and sent back to them at no cost on my part.

I've had good and not so good dealings with Botach. The last episode was the last straw for me.

I use a similar tactic. As a matter of fact I ended up just working with one lady "Avia" and getting her personal extension. You have to press them to look and see if the item is actually in stock. I was pleasantly surprised and they had a 3.8-22X44 uso in stock with the 35mm tube in MOA/MOA with the EREK and illumination. Perfectly spec'd for me. I was even able to negotiate the price with them. She ended up giving me about 350 off the advertised price and threw a set of uso 35mm rings in with the deal. I ordered another 5-25 TPAL from her at the same time that was not in stock and had it within 6 weeks. She kept me abreast of its progress at USO the entire time. Pretty good service but you have to take control when you call them. Get a representative and stick with them through the process. Negotiate with them too. They will come down. At least they did for me.

On a side note I had been previously pissed at them over an order I placed online for an NXS. I assumed it was in stock (mistake) and needed it in a hurry. I chose a fast shipping method and came to understand that the item was not even in stock. I called and chewed someones ass and refused to order from them for about a year. Then I gave them another shot but went into the deal with both eyes open. They redeemed themselves in my book. If you call ask for Avia. She is good people.
