I found and bought a liquidation A5 for my current build. I sent it off to get it inletted, but McM wouldn't touch it being as it is a liquidated stock. My smith is going to inlet it for me, but I was also going to order a saddle cheek for it and have them install it.
Now; Is it possible to order a saddle cheek from them and have my smith or me install it? And yes i've looked at Karsten's, but would rather have the McM.
Thanks.

McMillan stocks are made specifically for the hardware that are intended to be used on the final end product.

In other words, they use a different mold for the cheekpiece-destined stocks AND do the fill differently than they do for the non-adjustable. The fill is specific for ANYTHING that will be attached to the stock - butt, cheek, rail. They also do the fill specific to the type of action, length of action, and the chambering intended to be fired in the action.

Doing the cheekpiece after the fact is quite doable - just understand that the stock will not be up to the same durability spec that it would have been if ordered with the hardware from them (or specifically for Terry Cross to put his KMW assy in it).

This guy has done a ton of cheekpieces on McMs and has many happy customers -

I asked Joe specifically about putting the KMW in one of my stocks. Here was his reply (verbatim cut and paste from email):

"f the stock has the sniperfill, both bottom and top are milled. The bottom part is marinetexed in and the top is both screwed and marinetexed in. That is how Terry installs those parts as well.

If the stock has the lightweight foam I remove all of it off and refill the stock with the high density foam, then install the top/bottom hardware as usual.

Hope this helps. If you have any questions let me know."

Yes it is doable, regardless of fill.

EDIT TO ADD - this was on an A5 non-adj BTW.

No, if you want to have the KMW, get in touch with Stockdoc (Joe Ducos) and he will install it. He cuts the stock, digs out all the air hole/voids and fills them back in with Marine Tex and installs the hardware and then Marine Tex's that in as well. So if anything the stock is actually stronger. He just did one for me on a Manners T4 and it was done well. Here's a pic of the final product.
