So im in the process of picking up a manners. I have decided since im doing more hunting than competions that style of stock wont serve my needs. I have been looking at the manners t3 and t5 as options. I was wondering if anyone had some feedback as to how well they carry in the field ( slung up and off hand). I am still tossing around weather or not i want the chassis system ( im trying to go light weight). I wont be ordering the "A" models. This will be going on a bone stock sps tac (308). Any and all experiences/stories/pics are appreciated.

Thank you,
Rob

For hunting, I'd look for the lightest fill possible, I think its 90% carbon. I'd also consider flush cups rather than studs for versatility. Get them all the way around, and just one for bipod if you're using a Harris. I highly recommend the chassis because you won't need to bed it and you have the option to use 5 and 10 round AICS mags. They will be handy for hunting, too.

Chassis will add weight and cost, and for just a hunting gun you may want a cheaper blind bottom. Bedding easy an easy DIY, follow the thread on here for it.

Also for hunting you could go with the wyatt extended box to load longer OAL then in a standard mag. May be useful to load then longer berger vlds for hunting.

Re: Ordering up a manners stock

Get the mini chassis. It is a super solid addition and provides the ability to drop and go, switch between barreled actions, no need to bed, saves money on the bottom metal.

Ive been running one for a long time and it is simply outstanding.

Re: Ordering up a manners stock

Great choice. Been using a T3 for 4 years now and it's my favorite stock. I have 3 now and plan on a 4th Great in all positions. You can get the light weight option to keep weight down.

You can see a pic of my newest T3 in my Crescent Custom thread. It's a molded in woodland camp finish with the mini chassis.

Re: Ordering up a manners stock

Thanks all! I will look to see just how much weight i would be adding with the chassis. Rob, very nice! I think i may just be sold on the t3. Ill do a little more digging on the weight issue. Tiger fan, i have on order badger bottom metal that i was going to throw on this stock but i may just have manners inlet it for me. Id rather have box mags because i do seat my bergers out quite a bit and have been forced to go single shot ( no such problem with my target load though).

^^^^ What he said and Rob too. The T3 is a little lighter than the T5. I have a T3 mini-chassis on order and my wife uses a T5. If you can, try them out to see which one feels better for you as the thumbhole type stock is very much a matter of personal preference. I believe that Manners will even ship a couple of samples to you to try out if you pay the shipping costs.

If you get a mini-chassis, which I think is a good option, take a careful look at the amount of weight you'll save by getting the 90% carbon fill. I think you save only a few OZs overall and it might not be enough to justify the extra cost. You'll make your biggest savings with a lighter barrel and the non adjustable configuration.

Another sleek design that looks good for hunting too is to use a Manners T3 with Surgeon Bottom Metal. The Surgeon Bottom Metal is nicer than the Badger M5 (forward mag lip, ambidextrous release, no hanging release lever); however, you would probably want to bed the rifle and you have to buy the DBM separately. Cost wise the surgeon DBM system with bedding would be a little bit more, but not by much.

Re: Ordering up a manners stock

May consider the SL. While they won't do the barrel channel that big you do have room to open it up. Just a traditional style stock that is pretty versitile for most uses.

Very good advice!

Re: Ordering up a manners stock

Thank you gents. Seeing as i can cancel that bottom metal order I think i will. I will pick up the mini chassis as its only adding .62 #. Plus i will be shedding weight in my scope choice. I do like thumb holes but i also like a traditional hunting stock (not much for a vert grip especially standing). Im leaning towards the t3 w/ mini chassis. Hell its got to be lighter than what i am currently running. Now all i got to do is find a buyer for my h-s. lol

Re: Ordering up a manners stock

Certain Manners models have a wide fore end that's designed for riding a bag but works equally well off hand. That said, I'm not sure I'd hump my T5, long tube or not. It has a wide profile, large footprint and its generally cumbersome.

The TA, T2, GAT, and the T3 are all better suited for hunting and will also serve you well if you wanna shoot matches.

Re: Ordering up a manners stock

I dig the MSC-T
My LTR base rifle upgraded with a Jewell trigger, Manners and Wyatts DB

Great setup for range or hunting.
Handles well from a bench or shooting offhand and is better balanced than the stock HS stock was.

Re: Ordering up a manners stock

I have a GAT on my hunting rifle and love it!!! It provides most of the benefits of the T5 and is smaller footprint overall.

</div></div>. I agree with the MCS-T, have one
for my lightweight .223 and will have another for my lightweight .260 build.

Re: Ordering up a manners stock

I just started using a tf1 for a sps tac 308 today and it did very well. No problem shooting slung or prone and had good hits out to 970 yds from only field positions. Very stable stock. Little on the heavy side but for a lighter bbld action it isnt to bad. Good luck
