Origin Single Feed

Are there any options to single feed an Origin action?

Anyone make a replacement bolt head or a mag block that sits low enough to allow the round to feed into the controlled feed bolt face?

I tried single feeding once and mine did not go over the rim. Now, I didn’t push very hard for fear of damaging the brass. Does the sled let the round sit lower than the top of the AICS magazine does?

Unless you didn’t start the tip into the chamber or are just jamming into the case body between the action and the bolt like an absolute idiot (which would be easily visible through the ejection port) the extractor will pop over the rim just fine. It’s not a shitty winchester. Take the bolt out and pop it over by hand if it makes you comfortable to prove as much.

Is this a short action Origin thing? On a long action origin, single feeding is as simple as throwing a round on an empty mag and closing the bolt. There is no difference in feeling than if loading from a mag. The extractor snaps over effortlessly.

I've been single feeding my sa Origin over the course of load development with a Bobsled. No issues to speak of, life is good.

Update: I ordered the MKM single load adapter last night. Today, I tested with Magpul AI mag. Throwing a round on top of the mag won’t feed. However, if I place the case head on the follower and tip into the start of the chamber, as was suggested, it feeds. Downside is, i cant just throw a round in there as I can with other rifles. I think the adapter may fix that issue.

You should be able to just throw a round in without thinking about it, this doesn't sound like an Origin issue.

Sounds like it's your chassis/stock magazine-ride-height that's f'ed up. If it won't feed without you helping it, I'd check that.

Feeds perfectly from magazines, so I’m not sure what would be misaligned. It’s in a KRG Bravo, so I don’t think I have any adjustments to be made.

If it feeds perfectly from a mag, then it should single-feed perfectly too.

The Origin’s extractor is spring-loaded, not fixed, and should pop over the case rim just before the bolt is fully home. It’s not like a Mauser/claw where the case rim has to be captured before going into battery.

Just make a dummy round and then watch what it’s doing through the ejection-port as you slowly close the bolt. If it’s getting caught up somewhere, it should be obvious.

American Rifle Co mags have their issues in dirt, but if you don't compete or don't mind keeping them clean, try one of them. They have a much better follower angle than most AICS clones and will single feed without the need to start the bullet in the chamber. My bro runs several Origins and discovered this with certain cartridges.

Doesn’t Zermatt offer a “push feed” bolt face on special order? I thought I saw a post sometime ago about it.

Check your extractor's movement. It should move relatively freely by pushing on it by hand. If it doesn't move nice and smooth, take the extractor out and inspect it for burrs or any other damage. Throw a dab of grease in the slot on the bolt face and reinstall it. If it continues to give you issues, you just need a new extractor.

Single feeding can create a stiffer close, but it's totally possible given all of the bolt head components are good to go.

Extractor moves freely. Bolt head looks perfect.

The MK Machining sled showed up yesterday so I tried it today. Feeds like warm butter!! I’m guessing I am just not willing to put enough pressure on the bolt to snap the extractor over the rim. I’m happy using the sled, so no more worries. Thanks for all the responses! Really love this action! Wish there was a Lapua bolt face for the LA!

I know this thread is a year old, but I have a LA Orogon that I am switching from a chassis setup to a backup Fclass type setup w a wood stock. Has anybody run one w a single shot follower? I’m doing this to get my boys or a buddy interested in that type of shooting and will have another rifle that I can take or even use as a backup if needed.

I’m running my SA with MK Machining single shot sled. It feeds great. Occasionally, the rim doesn’t go under the extractor and the bolt is very hard to close. I believe the effort is snapping the extractor over the rim.
