Sorry if this has been beaten to death, but I searced and didnt find a whole lot.

Was browsing the funshow yesterday and have been eyeballing the Osprey scope booth. Guy was telling me that the glass is top quality, laser etched and made by the same company as Leupold. 200-250 dollar range is what he is selling them for. Has one that goes all the way up to 40 power. Nice looking reticle, 30mm main tube, side focus and its pretty heavy.

I was thinking about getting one to try on my 700 223. He said the warranty is lifetime and since he is local I can return it to him if need be. Rings and caps are junk and will need to be replaced, but for the money I was wondering. I would like to go with another SS as I have one on my 6.8 and it works great. The Osprey target knobs are not near as positive as the SS or my Mark 4, but they do feel pretty good.

What are you thoughts and opinions on these scopes?

Thanks in advance.

You know me, I say buy it and try it. Worst case scenario and it's junk? Return it.

Jack,

Thanks for the link. Im kinda leary now. Scope felt solid as my Mark 4, but to many bad things so far.

I think I will just stock with another SS. I wished the made a fucking varible optic though.

Re: Osprey rifle scopes

I looked at the data sheet they provide for the "rangefinding" reticle. A buddy bought one, and it just didn't make much sense. It wasn't in mils, and wasn't explained right if it was in MOA. At least I couldn't make sense of it. If I was you, I'd spend my money elsewhere.

look it even says it is simple....

Any size target can be easily ranged using a simple formula:
Target size in inches /MOA x 100 = Range in yards
To determine the range of an object in yards:
1. Determine the targets size in inches.
2. Divide that number by the amount of MOA on the reticle.
3. Multiply the number by 100.
Example: 18” target, target height is 6 MOA. The range to the target is 300 yards.
(18 / 6 x 100 = 300 yards)

I would like to see this proven. It is made in China, you could say anything really and how could anyone know otherwise?

Yeah, for now. But I've no experience with them, if they are at SHOT I'll be sure to check them out.
