Gunsmithing Other guns that will fit a Savage 10 stock?

I was given a B&C Savage Model 10 stock, and I would like to build my first long range rifle with it. However, the issue I am running into is finding the rifle to fit it. It is built for the now discontinued Savage Model 10 short action blind mag rifle, and I haven't found one to match. I was wondering if there were any other good rifles that will fit in this stock so I can get some use of it, otherwise I'll just sell it, which I'd rather not do.

Like JMG posted stevens is the same gun just make sure the bolt pattern is the same. The bolt pattern is so close to the 4.4 bolt pattern that I've made a larger diameter pillar to move the bolt .
That stock has the aluminium bedding block I wonder if you had CDI inlet it for bottom metal they could do the same ?

So do you want it to stay blind mag? If it’s a staggerfeed, I have a metal trigger guard and magazine/follower.

I think by keeping that stock and forcing yourself to build a gun that is compatible with it you are making a mistake. I strongly advise you to sell the stock for whatever you can get and build a rifle not based on a savage action. In the long run this will save you headaches and money.

Hmmmm, never had much of a headache with my savage build except for the aftermarket barrel that Shillen messed up.

So I wouldn't bother with that guys comments. Savages are good rifles. Some people just cant accept that fact.

Anyway, CDI will inlet the stock for free if you buy one of their bottom metals and they are in line with the others for pricing. They did mine and I love it. As for the rifle, any Savage model 10 or Stevens 200 should work. Good luck on your hunt.

I have a long range practice gun in 7/300 wsm built on a Savage Model 16 4.375" action. The donor gun was ~$400. Stainless steel, controlled feed, fixed ejector, it's an interesting gun. Staggered feed short action blued or matte guns from ~99-07 can be cheap donor actions.

I was speaking from experience. I have built off a savage.

Pros:
1. Accuracy was good. Not great, just good.
2. Action was cheap. Donor rifle cost me something like $300 and I sold the take off barrel and stock for about $75.

Cons:
1. Parts and accessories are not plentiful and you have to be very carefull to find ones that fit your model of rifle. Savage chained many design aspects of their actions over the years. For example: barrel tennon, action screw spacing, single feed or double feed, safety position...
2. Of all the actions I felt and have used the savage was the worst. Heaviest bolt lift, horrible slop and bolt binding. Extraction sucked. Ejection sucked. Feeding sucked. I tried all the modifications and aftermarket parts and I eventually decided it was a lost cause.

Savages will shoot good and are cheap. Good luck.
