Question... if you had to choose an out of the box rifle to start out with,

Savage 10 FCP HS, 1-10 twist barrel
or
Savage 12 F-T/R with the heavy 30" 1-12 twist barrel,

which one would you pick. I like them both, can't buy but one.
Both for 308 Win.
Any thoughts ?? Open to suggestion just looking to stay around the $1100 range (before optics).

This...

Ones a "Tactical" rifle and the other is an F-Class rifle.

Re: Out of the box

10 FCP, the velocity increase is negligible from what I've seen in .308 and adding those extra inches of a 30" barrel, wouldn't make for to much fun slinging that big boy around.

Re: Out of the box

Right now i am looking at shooting between 100 - 600 yds, Although with the new 1K range here in GA, who knows.
I do have room to practice at 1K on my folks farm in near Andersonville. I hear they are expanding a range across the creek over in Alabama.
Anyway, if the velocity difference between the two is negledgeable, it would just come down to accuracy.
With either, i do intend to bed the action into the stock.
It won't necessarily be a hunting rifle. Have a 270 WBY Mag for that.

Re: Out of the box

what's the relative cost & lead time for a 6 flute on the FCP bolt? I like the black factory finish on the FCP bolt, polished flutes across the black would look pretty sharp.

Even considering the model 12 LRP, chambered in 260 Rem 1-8 twist barrel.

Re: Out of the box

what's the advantage of the McMillan stock over the HS stock?
The HS uses the aluminum bedding block. Although, i have seen good results out of the McMillan after pillars/bedding work done.

Re: Out of the box

Unfortunately, I am not a tactical operator.
& no, nomatter how many times my drinking buddies with APD try to pry me away from my desk job, it's not going to happen.
