Looks like I'm taking the wife, kids w 1 friend each to the Outer Banks, been using the various rental agency websites, hard to find a place looking at pics on the 'net.
Anyone have any recommendations? Greatly appreciated.

Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills are great. KDH has a nice fireworks display on the 4th of July. So is Corolla. Cape Hatteras is cool too.

My recommendation is Ocracoke Island. It's gorgeous, and the waves are some of the largest on the east coast. I believe they have a hotel on that island. It will take you a ferry ride to get there. I recommend that you do not go there during hurricane season, as it's a barrier island.

If your looking for the lights, putt putt, golf carts, shopping, etc look at kill Devil Hills to Nags Head. If your looking for a great time with out the bright lights look at Hatteras Island.

I like Rodanthe. We have been going for years. Close enough to Nags Head so my wife can shop one day and close enough to the the cape for great fishing.

If your on Hatteras Island, be sure to check out the local places to eat, they are delicious.

Kitty Hawk and Carolla get my vote.

Not Outer banks, but I'm counting on Tybee Island being nice later this year, too.

I'm a big fan of Emerald Isle. Really though, it's hard to have a bad time there. I actually met my wife at Duck Beach.

Depends on what experience you want. Duck is very family friendly, but a little snooty and more expensive. It feels a lot more secluded / quieter than some of the other towns.

Personally, I like Nags Head / Kitty Hawk area better. For the same money as a house a block away from the beach in Duck, we got one that was slightly larger and right on the beach. Shops / restaurants are more conveniently located. It's also closer to the Marina if you're bringing a boat.

Re: Outer Banks rental advice/assist

Snooty isn't me/us, looking for a reasonable, comfortable house, close to conveniences (beer and seafood), on the beach if at all possible. Looking at houses on the net is making my eyes bleed.
Going week of 7/13.

Ocracoke is quiet and secluded, only way on the island is ferry and everything is pretty much in walking distance. You can drive a 4x4 on the beach and Howards Pub is the place to be. Plus the Gulf Stream is very close if you're into offshore fishing.

Another idea is checking out the lighthouses up and down the banks. You can do almost all of them in the same day if you time the ferries just right.

I stayed in Duck a few years back and it is by far my favorite place to vacation.

Does anybody remember the name of that all you can eat place near OBX that's like an hour wait to get in, but they have the biggest crab legs you'd ever see on the menu?
