Can a high powered scope inhibit accuracy? I noticed mirage today and it was only 40 degrees. Can the mirage cause a shift of the image in the scope? My rifle can usually print .5 inches but when I dialed it up to 16x my groups grew. Once dialed back down to 9x it shot well again. Scope is a Burris.

Re: Over powered scope?

Yes the mirage can shift the image but target will always return to the same spot it truly at. If the wind is come from the left the image of your target will move to the left do to the mirage. Watch the bottom corner it will return to the same stop.

Hope this helps.
