Gunsmithing paint booth for garage

anybody got any good ideas or good plans for a paint booth that i can use in the garage to vent, and catch overspray when applying cerekote and moly resin?

ANY information will be helpful, esp DIY solutions.

I went out and bought a coleman "EZ UP" deal at Wally World. Wrap the $30 apron around it, toss in a few $10 halogen lights, a $20 fan, throw on the Hendricks/Greatful Dead, and get effed up!

It's only braincells right??

If the light catches the tent on fire just pretend your at a Marlyn Manson concert.

We just shoot infront of the exhaust fan. We're lazy.

I'll post a picture of a set up I have which has promise for those who would like room to paint and coat, but can't have a monster booth taking up room.

Pic will have to come tomorrow if I can remember that long.

Basic concept is angle iron at each corner of each wall, with holes for mating up at each corner with bolts. In my case there is some cross members for additional support and sheet metal as covering, but any manner of materials could be used. Wood would be very easy with some plywood or drywall. in a pinch even tarping wrapped around the corners could be effective. Then a fan at any manner of placement, I like mine in the bottom shooting down and out, and not too fast. Low speed works best for me.

I hope that makes some form of sense. I will try and take a pic of one of the walls tomorrow, and show what i mean.

That is one panel of 4 the close up of the corner is to show how it mates up and bolts together. Does that make sense? Sorry it isn't the easiest to picture or describe.

Yeah. Let me know if you would like more pictures or eventually a picture of it assembled. It's simple enough and could be made out of any manner of materials or scrap.

This works well if you add the exhaust duct to the top. and run it through a hole in a window or wall. All the particals are trapped in the filter, and the smelly fumes go out side. You have to spray in front of the booth. The foot print is 4 feet wide by about 3 feet deep. Just an idea.

To buy is easy. Look for spray or paint booths on eBay. These Will pop up. Too bad you live so far, I'm selling mine $300.00 if someone would just pick it up. The booth cost over $700.00 new without the heavy duty table I made from 1/4 x 2 inch square tubing, which goes with it.

I just put an attic ventilator fan with a speed controller in the wall and open a window on the other end of the shop. It's pretty effective and also keeps air moving through the shop in the summer. I don't like to use it in the winter as it sucks all the heat out very quickly.

My only advice to all as a professional HVAC contractor who has done paint booths for everything from small parts to paint hangers for Boeing, is to make sure the exhaust fan you use is "explosion proof". Usually has a spark proof wheel and a TEFC motor. I have seen some baaaad ju-ju happen if not. Check out your local Grainger Supply.

This thread has been a solid 2 months and a bit in the dead, however I wanted to ask about the explosion proof fan systems? Do you know if cerakote as an explosion risk and if it does, is it truly of a worry? I'm specifically talking about cerakote in this instance. I can imagine a whole bunch of other compounds deciding to combust but never had the inkling that cerakote was gonna do me in. Just curious of your knowledge with different materials and combustion. It's a sensitive nature as far as I understand with specific levels of ignition and combustion. I don't want to come across one of those accidentally.

Here is the homemade paint booth I just made out of 1" pvc pipe. It's 8'x8'x 7' tall. I've got 2 large sheets of 6 mil plastic to put on it. I made it where it will fit in the garage. All I got left is add the lights, and exhaust (box fan) Even color coded the vertical pieces and horizontal for when I take it apart.
