I'm going to try to krylon my rifle. I'd like to try the GAP desert pattern. Everyone says to use a light tan as a base coat then use darker colors. If I want the majority of the rifle to be tan, should that be my last color? I'm thinking that, when appling painters tape as a pattern it would be easier to do a darker color first that way I wouldn't be taping off as much. Right?

If you are going to use masking tape I would do a base coat in the darkest color, black or dark brown. Then use a light brown the hit the rest of it in tan.

Spray Light Tan as the Base, apply stencils from Bull Dog Arms or make your own with blue painters tape. Spray Medium Tan as a second coat, repeat stencil process and leave the first set on the rifle stock. Spray Dark Tan as final coat, remove all stencils. In spots, there will be three coats of paint on the stock.
