Question is, after I paint it is there a way to clean out the paint from all the little hash marks and show the orginal white again.

There is but I don't think the end result will be what you want. Those should have been masked off prior to painting. Now you will have to be careful about where the acetone goes while removing the paint. And more then likely you will not be able to keep the run off of acetone off your new paint.

Well then a problem doesn't exist yet. It is real simple. Mask off the parts of the scope you don't want painted prior to beginning the work. The most important part of painting is the prep work.

That was my first thought. A wax with a low melt point rubbed into the etchings to mask them. No idea if it would work or not.
