Hello All , Thinking about signing up for my first f t/r at Palo Alto in Donaldsonville La. I have been the web site but i haven't found the rules in this class for this range ( gun weight, optics ect. )
Any one have a site i can get this info ?

Thx , Phil

Re: Palo Alto F T/R Class rules ( Help )

You can pm RStewart or Ritten here and they should be able to help you out more.

Or you could check the NRA website for the specific rules for that class.

And as always, you could just bring your gun out there and see what its all about. Everytime I have been out there everyone was more than helpful.

Re: Palo Alto F T/R Class rules ( Help )

I'll be there. Ritten and I will be taking over as match directors for this in January. We are already the match directors for FPR. So, come out and plan on having a good time. Ask around for me when you get there and I'll try to answer any questions I can.

Re: Palo Alto F T/R Class rules ( Help )

Come on out Philt1 and check it out. I won't be out there for this weekend's match, but like was said above there are plenty of people out there who are more than willing to help you get started.

Re: Palo Alto F T/R Class rules ( Help )

Im trying to line up a scope for the match but looking pretty grim as of right now.

But i'll be there fo-sho , i might enter with my my rig as is but its still in the air right now

just found the sweet spot on my bergers and things are looking up
whoohhooo

Thanks guys , Phil

Re: Palo Alto F T/R Class rules ( Help )

I'll be out there this weekend to get a feel for it and hopefully start shooting it in January.

I have a Cheapo 6-24 Bushnell Banner in my case i can bring out there for you to use. It's not the best, but it should be more than plenty with a quick zero to get you out to the 600 comfortably.

great to meet you both!

Re: Palo Alto F T/R Class rules ( Help )

yeah it was a great time meeting all of you out there. I'll hopefully be ready for January with all my gear, otherwise i might just buy some FGMM and go shoot it anyway.

I'm pretty flexible and if any of you guys would like to get together outside of the matches let me know and maybe we can set something up.

You should do this, I used 168gr FGMM for the FPR matches and did well. Or you could get some southwest ammo 175 gr and do even better.

Phil,

We open up shop 9 till 6 Monday through Friday. Give Jay or I a call or send us a PM. We would be glad to talk with you.

Re: Palo Alto F T/R Class rules ( Help )

Phil,
Like I mentioned, Sportoptics are a great bunch of folks to do business with (that's why I had their card). They support our state matches in Louisiana and Mississippi. We try to do as much business as we can with them in return for their kindness. I just had a base and rings put on my new rifle by Jay a week or so ago.

Thanks dude! It gets some funny looks, but it shoots pretty well.
The new barrel on it defintely made my scores jump.

Really glad you got to make it. It is always great to have new shooters on the line. Hope you get to come to the match next month!

mickeb. Nice shooting this weekend and it was nice meeting you. Thanks again for letting me check out your rifle and scope!

Mr. Stewart talked me into the 42x56 and after looking through yours I know why. Is your reticle the NPR1?

I am going to call sport optics in the morning and see if they have one.

Thanks again

Shawn

Thanks Shawn! Nice to get to meet you too.
Yep it is a NXS 12-42x56 with the NPR1 reticle. I have a NXS 8-32x56 with the CH1 that is OK, but it I tough in heavy mirage.
Give old Jay a ring over there at Sportoptics. He will take good care of you!
He knows his stuff.

Re: Palo Alto F T/R Class rules ( Help )

Hate I couldn't make the shoot this past weekend. For any of you guys thinking about shoot at Palo, this is from an occasional visitor-- great range and top notch people.

The Mississippi group did well!

Re: Palo Alto F T/R Class rules ( Help )

I was looking at the next match on the 17th i think.
can someone explain the shoot to me?
I might make that one too

Are AR,s used for rapid fire ?
can you use semi auto and bolt for shoot ?

Thanks, Phil

Been a while, but iirc, this is the course of fire-
20 rounds are fired at 200 yards from the standing position, loaded one round at a time.
You will then do 2- 10 round rapid fire strings at 200 yards from the sitting position. A magazine change in each string is required.
You will then move back to the 300 yard line and fire 1- 10 round string from the prone position with a mag change.
You finish out by moving back to the 600 yard line and fire 20 more rounds from the prone position single load.
Email Dan at [email protected]. He can set you up with the proper equipment to shoot this type match. $5 for rifle rental, you bring the ammo.

Rick

Service and Match AR's are the normal rifles shot in these matches, with a few M1's occassionally thrown in.
