Did an impulse buy on a 700 heavy with the laminated stock. It is in 22-250 and I am not a fan of that ctg, but it was a good deal and I thought I could use the action for a .308 build. Like I said, I am not a big admirer of .22 centerfires, but that makes 2 of them I have bought in the last month- go figure.

Anyway, last night I took the gun apart to see what I had. It had a very neat bedding job and the trigger had been taken down to about 2#'s. I thought, "a man that likes to shoot had this rifle and it is shot out." Being hopeful, I loaded up some SMKs over the accuracy charge of RL 15 and took it to the range in 25* weather. It shoots under a half inch for three shots and about .75" for five.

I am one happy camper.

Re: Pawnshop 700

thats awesome, I had the same deal with a consignment R700 in .223 at a local gunstore. It is the 700 VS SF. I shot it today for the first time @ 100 yards and had two groups cloverleaf. Didn't have a measuring device w/ me.

Go us!

Re: Pawnshop 700

Hmm must be a 22 cal. tradition, picked me up a 22-250 (R700) for 250 after a guy couldn't sell it the store. Seems he ran into a guy nice enough to take it off his hands when he was leaving disheartened from the store.
.
Good job....on a side note..I love those VS SF's and their big brother Sendero Sf's.

Re: Pawnshop 700

hard to believe but i just got home from the local sporting good store with 2 brand new in the box rem. xr-100 rangemasters in .204 they were 35% off their sale price so i got them for 485 each NIB i don't like the .204 round but the actions make great match rifles, solid bottom and shorter then a 700.
p.s. i am pretty sure they made a mistake on the price but i asked them twice so whatever.

Re: Pawnshop 700

Hide-member Banshee did the same at this pawnshop- only bigger. He bought a LTR with a nice Nikon it for about $650. He disassembled it and found it had Nightforce bases. Thing shot like a hammer.

Regarding used guns, you could not run fast enough to give them to some guys, but I have been pretty lucky. The first highend rifle I owned was a 22-250 Sako. I put a Unertl on it and was flying first class. Got a lot of oohs and aahs with that rifle. It was a dead on shooter and it was bought used from a local gunshop. Back then, it was half a months pay.

I like seeing the good guys get lucky now and again.

Yeah, its a great gun. I plan on getting a Sendero in 300 Win Mag when funds allow.
