Last night around 7 :00 pm someone in France got into my PayPal account and no one, not even my wife had my password. Contacted PayPal to dispute the transaction. Waiting to see how they handle the issue. Any others experience any thing like this on PayPal. I changed my password within minutes.

That really sucks, and I hope they get you sorted out. Not to sound preachy, and certainly not pouring salt on the wound, but if they got in you likely had a weakness somewhere. Anyone can get breached, even Brian Krebs' PP account got hacked twice in the same day, but there are measures to prevent it happening again.
Passwords these days are more vulnerable than ever. Also, if you share the same password from one account to any others, you're at great risk of getting hosed. One source gets hacked, they sell that info on the dark web, then hackers utilize that email and password combo to try common money based logins. EVERY single account tied should carry its own password that is not only never shared with any other account, it should be a severe password of at least 16 multi characters that are completely randomized. This is why using a password manager is more necessary than ever these days too. 1Password is one of the best as it works across all common platforms, and also will auto generate random passwords easily for you to use on anything and everything important. I highly recommend running it or similar as well, but first and foremost I recommend activating 2FA.

Lastpass is another good option for a password vault that takes 2FA to get into.
PayPal should be able to pull the logs and see where the majority of your logins occur and see that the French dude is the odd man out. You should get your money back

I do PP as seldom as possible, years back they told me that I had reached a "lifetime spending limit" so they were required to verify my idenity by axcessing my bank account. Nope, It is ok to use them with a cc but let them into my bank, no f---en way. After a few years of locking me out they let me use my cc again.
Same thing happened to me. First it's the bank account -- and IIRC I set one up just for PayPal. Then they want a copy of your DL. I've read the next step was a copy of your social. I stopped without giving them my DL. What really floored me in the day of identity theft is that they didn't want the personal info entered anonymously into their computer system. They wanted it all sent to them so one of their $10 an hour employees would have it in their hot little hands. Nucking Futs to that. It's been the biggest reason I avoid PP. I would be interested if they have any official position on the change in policy. And for those curious, I believe the limit in question was $10,000.00 CUMULATIVE over time, not a single transaction. IIRC they tried to argue that was the same limit banks were required to report to the Feds and it was a federal reporting issue. Of course the bank thing is a cash deposit structuring issue. And notice neither Amazon nor your CC are asking for your DL when you hit $10,000 in purchases? So PP looked like a shady company to me.

Is your Virus software up to date and current. Did you & do you perform daily updates? Did you do an update of your software after you found out about your account being hacked? How many computers have access to and used the paypal account? You need to make sure you do not have a trojan horse, Etc. Any of your online accounts could have been compromised check all. I would change password accross the board.
When I set up my PayPal account in 2010, I did not go through any of these steps. PayPal does have some issues, which are most pronounced for the new PayPal users, but it has no alternatives, at least at this time. I've tried to find something else, I really tried, but no other offering comes close.... Will stick with PayPal until there is a real alternative.
Yeah, unfortunately paypal is about it for right now. Too bad there isn't a 3rd party setup that holds the funds from being released until the item arrives. I always thought something like that would work well for personal internet transactions.
I once bought a website from squatters in Hong Kong and used an escrow service to hold the funds until the site was signed over.

Granted, the account hadn't been used for a purchase in nearly a year (it was used when living overseas) and had only been receiving impressive single-digit cent, but I was thoroughly unimpressed with any sort of flagging by these 'premiere financial institution' for some large dollar transactions out of an account that hadn't seen action in ages.
Regardless, cyber crime and identity theft is easier now than ever. What can't be found online these days? Hard to go without it either, unfortunately.

My oldest son has a masters degree in computer science and sets up the best security system on my device. He told me to get out of PayPal because of the way they store private info. I'm just waiting to get this settled before I drop them, they say I should have a update on the 17th .

Somehow a hacker got my password and emptied my PP account, buying Starbuck gift cards. I called them, they froze my account for a couple of days and then put every cent back.
Lots of guys bash PP because they are anti-gun and sure, they take a cut of sales, but I still use it for the convenience and great customer service. If I ever had a question about a transaction, they looked into it right then and there and resolved the issue or let me know everything looked good.
As for anti-gun, I enjoy the irony of selling gun stuff on PP.
One thing of passwords, hackers get a ton of them from forums. If you install a ad blocker and java blocker you will see them light up whenever you are on a forum. Your info is going everywhere. I used to use the same login and pass for lots of sites, one of the forums I am on was hacked and the next day my Hotmail, amazon, credit card and shit even Walmart accounts were locked from attempts to login. Just be careful and make very strong passwords. I run a Mac now; never had an issue with Malware or viruses, but Apple loves to collect data and tries to be sneaky about it.
