I'll start out with a disclaimer: I'm not a "gamer" and not too tech savvy these days!

Anyways, I woke up today with the bright idea, that I'd go to Best Buy and get MW3 and a xbox360 controller for my PC. (why buy a gaming system, if I can play it on my PC right?)

Well I got everything setup on my computer (even xpadder)... So I go to play, and everything is sluggish!!!

So I'm thinking it may be my graphics card, even though my CPU is less than a year old.

My CPU is an HP "p6774y", with an ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics card... Do you think thats whats causing the "sluggishness" in MW3??? Would you recommend a better card? (without breaking the bank)

P.S. The video game box says the minimum requirement for a video card is: "Shader 3.0 or better 356 MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT/ ATI Radeon X1950 or better"

Re: PC video card suggestions?

MW3 is a graphic intensive game and a gamer-grade GPU is what you really need.

If I were you, I'd pick up one of the eVGA GTX 580 cards but you need to be sure that your PSU can support it with the required power requirements.

It's not the latest and greatest but it won't break the bank and will play the game without any hiccups while giving you plenty of eye candy.

You didn't mention how much RAM you have available and if you're maxing that out, it could very well be the culprit.

Re: PC video card suggestions?

System was equipped with 6.00 GB of RAM... With 5.75 GB still usuable. Not sure what the power rating is... but that seems fairly inexpensive and easy to take care of if needed.

Pretty much kickin myself in the ass... Probably could've bought a basic 360 for what I got invested into the game, controller, and xpadder! lol

Whooooooooooooooaa... just googled "eVGA GTX 580"

$500 base price??? Just to be clear, when I said "not break the bank"... I didn't mean the Deutsche Bank!

Re: PC video card suggestions?

Your power supply won't even drive a good middle of the road video card like a nVidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti (suggested power supply with TWICE the rating of your HP).

Put that same video board in a computer with some balls (like this HP Z800) and you'd be rocking.

I'm open to advice, and to learn from others whom are knowledgable on the subject of "budget" PC gaming!

Not trying to invest a bunch of money into playing MW3 on the PC!

I just wanna play the game, without lagging!

It takes me about 2-3 seconds to get my sight on target... and its not xpadders fault either, its the same on the keyboard

Re: PC video card suggestions?

Your best bet would be to upgrade your video to the minimum requirement (like the nVidia GeForce 8600GT). You don't have a lot of extra power supply capacity to play with, but this is still a big step up from the built-in video you're currently running.

The 8600GTS has slightly better specs, and about the same power consumption.

You can get either of these for about 30 bucks on eBay.

Re: PC video card suggestions?

I would say its most likely a cpu issue, I believe the amd 4200 is direct x 10 which may cause an issue but my roommate uses that for bf3 which is far more of a resource hog then mw 3 with no problem. If you want a new gpu id recommend a 570 best bang for the money but you will need at least a 600 watt psu with the correct amps per rail. If you know what your doing a new cpu cooler and a overclock would be the cheapest and may solve it. Btw ditch the controller and use a mouse and keyboard makes it alot easier to aim.

Re: PC video card suggestions?

I'm using a 1G ATI Radeon HD series card with great results. Pushing MW2 and now MW3 at 1900x1080 on a 24" monitor without a hiccup. Emachines AMD Athlon II from walmart. Upgraded the RAM to 8GB but not sure the gaming is eating that...mostly for other programs.

Re: PC video card suggestions?

I'm in WI Fox Cities. I can build desktops. shoot me a PM or email if you have questions.

I'm running:

AMD 1090T six core CPU + over clock with liquid cooled heatsink
SSD HD + 2 extra regular hard drives
ATI 5850 Toxic graphics card.
950Watt power supply
8 gigs of ram

Your computer's 4200 onboard graphics probably won't run WoW much less anything else...
