PEM base + picatinny rail

Has anybody done this? Welding a picatinny rail to a PEM (repro) base to use a modern scope on it?

I'm assuming you mean the PE top mount base? If you welded a rail on the PEM base, it would be on the left side of the rifle. Even if you removed the rings and used the PEM rail, it would still be offset to the left by quite a bit.

I want to say that I've seen it done with the PE base, but I can't remember where. Anything is possible.
