It's a major problem. Basically, anyone who makes 50k or less isn't going back to work because they make a good bit more not working with this wonderful policy in place. All the electrician helpers, Hvac, plumbers helpers, ect... are sitting at home. Causing major issues when we already had major issues.
Yeah, you know who really gets screwed? Those in the $60k-$80k range. They still getting taxed on all their money and having to pay for the commute and wear and tear and so on, to the point that they likely bringing home less than those sitting on their ass when you calculate it all up.
I couldn’t wait to get back to work
I have too much pride to sit back and leach off of welfare or UI I guess.
exactly. I don’t understand these people that just accept the minimum unless they making more than they would wirking
Dunno bought the 1200 in your area here in california they subsidized on top of the fed extra. My buddies sons girlfriend ( heh say that 3 times fast) was a waitress. Her restaurant got shut down take out only. She was getting 4k a month unemployment. Tax free
Holy shit! That’s crazy!!! No wonder people don’t want to go back.
It's not tax free though... wages paid thru UI are taxed. You have the option of deferring that by selecting to not have the taxes taken out immediately of any check --but in the end, at tax time that is taxable income and the gov. gets their slice. And if you forget to claim it --they claim it for you.
As far as jobs go here in LA, once Covid cost my main client back in Dec I've done everything to generate new business clients (or even find employment for that matter) and the economy here is still very stalled. Maybe it's just the design industry but the amount of people pounding the job boards far outweigh the jobs. I'm sometimes seeing 400 - 500 applicants if the employer forgets to cease the job post. Time to reinvent! Or GTFO of commie CA
not all is tax free but I believe that the extra is tax free. The jacked up part is that if I’m not mistaken you are getting taxed on money you were already taxed on tho!!
The problem is they sent everybody home to work and it works just fine and now nobody wants to go back to the office. I work for a department of 1200 people. 84% don't want to go back to the office full-time. We are going to see a second wave of people walking away from their jobs. Mostly the younger generation. We avoided layoffs and furloughs simply because enough people just quit, lol. We are so fucked. I'm so glad I'm eligible for retirement.
Yep! Because they got a taste of it and figured out how much better it is. You can get a shit ton more done, save money sbd have more time with the fam. However, working at home is not for everyone as it does take discipline.
Prolly won't quit - they will probably just find another gig that allows them to work from home. My Wife has been working from home since March 2020 and gets more done in 5 hours than she did at the office without the commute and expense of fuel and lunch and all that. Her boss said it's time to come back and then when they talked about it they decided it's cheaper for the company and for Mama to just continue working from home.
I think a lot of "micromanager" mentality want employees back at work but there is no reason to do that if the work is getting done without the commute. There was a shortage of qualified workers before the Pandemic and it has only been exacerbated by folks my age (I'm 65) deciding to cash it in and retire during furlough or layoff. If folks want more help they'll have to up the wage scale and compete - it's a workers market now.
VooDoo
Exactly! I worked from home for years and only recently started having to go back. And I should have negotiated more salary because I’m making what I was making while working from home, so technically I got a pay cut considering the cost of the ride, maintenance and fuel. and you are right, nobody wants to pay shit anymore. Hell 2017 was the first time in 3 decades americans actually got a pay raise.
People that are working from home that have to deal with a long commute and tolls are getting a pay raise for not going to the office. If I worked from home I could take a $400/month pay cut and not have to adjust my budget.
Exactly! I loved working from home, but I had been doing it for years before this crap. My new ride stayed new. I wasn’t wasting money on gas and maintenance, I got to spend more time with the fam, got more done around the house, actually had time to go to the gym and so on. It’s great if you are disciplined enough to do it! Sadly, I had to go back to the grind!
