Recorder: Brown Bear Industries NVGR
NVG: Nocturn Ind. Katana with L3 24ua tubes

I got my Katana built by a new NVG company called ACNV. If you're familiar with the NV Facebook groups, it's run by Sharif Elomrabi and Alex Max.

Ivan tactical lists the perst 2 illuminator as being 1200mW. Is that accurate? Seems too high to be true. Hard to tell how far the targets are in the video you're illuminating it with and it sounds like you guys were more impressed by the LA5b.

I just got a peq15 recently. Its pretty sweet and should be more than enough power for my use case on a short AR but high power lasers are just cool and I'm wondering if I should've gone with a perst now. 40mW sounds anemic next to those two you're playing with.

Haha we were more impressed with the suppressor and the weight of a 16 in. SOCOM barrel (felt like 10lbs just on the front lol).

I'm not sure on the validity of the 1200mW rating but I only had that much footage for the Perst 2 on max power because it was way too bright at close range LMAO, had to turn it down at closer range. The Perst 2 footage was probably at around 80 yards and the LA5B footage was around 30 yards. The LA5B is definitely wider and plenty bright @80mW but not death star bright like the Perst 2. It's a bit difficult to tell on the video because of the way the camera deals with white balance but in the LA5B clip you can still see all the objects in the illuminator whereas the Perst 2 is completely whited out.

The extra power in the Perst 2 illuminator is greatly appreciated when your in an environment with high ambient lighting. Also if you ever use a clip-on like the PVS-30/PVS-27 the Perst 2 is perfect because of the power and the ability to adjust the illuminator all the way down to a laser. It's insane!!! You could probably just use the illuminator as a weapon on its own ROFL.

But the PEQ 15 will definitely suit your needs on a shorty AR. It's just good to have extra power at your finger tips when the time arrises, better to have it than not have it when you need it.

There is a MAWL-ER.

For when you need to burn down a forest.

A bajillion. The C1+ has a 150mW laser installed, so use your imagination. 😁

>300mW.

They also make a SWIR model. 🥰
Wtf..........150mW just for the laser looool...but is that for vis toooo???!(EDIT: thought you were referring to the laser beam itself on the ER, not the diode or whatever the part is called) My Perst 2 vis already looks like a lightsaber lol, can't imagine what that even looks like. But this might be close because Zenitco didn't specify the output in Turbo mode cyka bylat.

For a little clarity, the C1+ maxes at 80mW in one of its illuminators, some of the revs just activate more than one illuminator at a time.

The ER has a 200mW illuminator. All the restricted ones have 25mW green vis lasers except the one with a 80mW red. CLAD replaces the vis dot with a 1064nm 45mW dot.

Edit: NVM. Just read the pics you posted.

Might be a stupid question but why the 1064 NM laser? I thought gen 3 tubes can’t see up that high into the IR spectrum. Or at least not very well based on what I’ve heard.

But the UHP versions of those will most likely be double the price of the gray market UHP DBAL-A3s. I can get whatever I want and I have a DBAL-D2 on my spotting scope with a PVS-27.
Interesting. I found the DBAL-D2 to be lacking compared to a PERST-3. I don't recall which generation the PERST was, but it was quite obvious which one was laser based and which was LED. Can you elaborate on why you like the D2 compared to other market alternatives? I really like my D2, but I had to call a spade a spade when I got to compare it against the Russian horsepower. I'm also using with a PVS-27.

Oh I thought you meant best purely on performance not civi market options.

But how much do the DBAL A3 UHPs go for? I probably only saw one on sale on facebook a long time ago. I see a lot of LA5Bs going for around $3.5k though.

How does the D2 do with high ambient light at >300 yds with the PVS-27? I heard laser is better than LED in this regard and overall.

This is a FP DBAL-A3. ;)

I has what is probably the cleanest illuminator of any LAM I’ve ever seen… and I’ve seen a few.
I’ve been wanting one of those for a while. They seem to sell for a good bit on the used market. Trade for a PVS14? 😁

Having owned a few common FP units, the Perst3 is in my opinion the best option for the money (just talking about performance of lasers/illuminator). Although it’s lacking a bit of refinement in a few areas such as battery compartment, switch port, and illuminator zero adjustments.

I’m currently trying some weirdness in the form of a KIJI & Perst4 just for fun. Spliced with a dual lead button for simultaneous activation. So far it’s cool.

That’s a ballin’ setup!

The downside of the DBAL is the rail height. Better to snag a MAWL-DA.

Just be careful with the Perst when you have to launch the RC2 free of carbon lock. I damaged my Perst 2 when I had the bottom of it right on top of the locking mechanism and launched the RC2 lol. The back pressure from the gas was immense to say the least lol.

I'm sure this could happen to US made IR lasers too.

This is the damage, a black spot on the illuminator. The flashlight was also blinking when activated.

Thats wild. Appreciate you passing on the lesson learned.

I’ve been very fortunate with my SF can, as I haven’t had it lock yet.
I clean/oil my muzzle device after most shoots. The added maintenance sucks, but seems to be worth it so far. If it ever does lock, I’ll just leave it on permanently 😆

But if you ever do need a Perst repaired contact IvanTactical. I bought mine from Russian Thunder but their email is down so IvanTactical said they'll accept it for repair/warranty and they'll even pay for the shipping back to me. Just have to pay for shipping to IvanTactical. No questions asked on what happened and when I had bought it.

IvanTactical also responds super fast compared to Russian Thunder, even when their email didn't have any complications.
