pete rose

Smoke and prayers Pete.

I never followed baseball, but my brother did. I still have all of his baseball cards from that era. I always hated that he didn't get into the fall of fame. I'd love to see him in now.

I guess it depends on MLB's perception of him (and/or his legacy) even in death. Perhaps, they just want to keep the baseball community on notice not to do what he's alleged to have done. Somehow, I think they're going to hang tough and not admit him posthumously. I think MLB got totally put off by him and fear his legacy with the fans. We'll see.

I remember the day Bart Giamatti (then commissioner of Baseball) banned Rose initially. He issued the ban, and then he flew up to Martha's Vineyard that afternoon, where he had a heart attack and died within hours of his arrival. It was his last official act as Baseball Commissioner. It was the last thing he ever did.

If MLB upholds the ban posthumously, it might be another good reason to cancel them. Like we don't have enough of those, but still.

He was one of the greatest players of all time and should be in the HOF. I started watching the HBO/Max show “Charlie Hustle” last week. While watching the first episode, I was thinking that my sons 14u team, which I coach, needs to see that episode to see what’s it’s like to play your hardest to win every single pitch. RIP Hit King.

I don’t see how what Pete did was so much worse than about 99% of politicians do all the time, yet they stay in office for years while they get wealthy off their in house gambling. Look at mlb today-how many on the inside are betting on games. Many people say it’s rigged, and I think it very easily could be. Look at umps. Talk about corrupt. Calls that are terrible if not flagrant, and then the old “oh, that’s not a reviewable play.” Pete rose loved the game and he played it with passion. He deserves the HOF
