Hey guys I have a 6.5x284 off a trued rem 700 action with a Broughton barrel. I'm trying to decide what to go with The two piece Talley rings or a steel rail and nightforce rings what do you think? This rifle will be used for long range steel and antelope and deer. Also the advantages and disadvantages of each would help. Thanks,

Re: Piccatiny rail or Talley Rings

I run Talley lightweights on light hunting rifles.
Assuming by long range steel you mean out to 1k.
Most people run a 20 MOA base and tactical style rings to make sure they have enough elevation correction to be be able to get there.

Depending on your load and the available adjustment in the scope you may not need a 20 MOA base and so you could get by with a set of Talleys

BTW, Talley makes great tactical rings and bases as well!

Re: Piccatiny rail or Talley Rings

I'm not worried about needing a 20 moa rail I should be able to shoot well past 1k without the 20 moa rail. I was more of wondering if the Talley's were considered durable strengthwise. I would like to keep the weight down but dont think the rail and rings would make a big enough difference for weight that I would care the rifle is around 9lbs. It seems alot of the hunters are using Talleys and Tactical are using the rail maybe its just a weight thing and they both are sufficiant....
