Picking the right insulation for a cure oven.

Hello,

I am currently gathering the supplies to do my own firearms coating. I am relatively new to it, but am a quick learner. I have everything but a cure oven. I am willing to build my own, specially after seeing all the builds on M1K3's thread. I went to Lowes yesterday to scout prices and resources I have available, problem is no one that works there can answer questions about duct board and using it in a cure oven. I want to ensure I am getting the correct materials, to ensure I dont burn anything down, my house included.

They have foil backed foam board as well as expanded polyurethane. Both options offer a foiled back. They also have board that is un-foiled, is using foil tape on the un-foiled board an option?

Any information will help a lot.

For insulation I used 1/2 in thick concrete board from lowes/home depot. It will soak up and hold the heat. Will take a little longer to get the oven up to temperature than oven insulation but works very well. 8 bucks for a 3ft x5 ft sheet.

Went with cement board. Used high temp silicon and then taped off the surfaces with high temp metal tape. Wirking on the wirering now.

Look on amazon for 1.5 or 2" rock wool. It cost me about 100 bucks for 5 sheets deliverd . It did the 20 gun cabinet with 1 piece left over. Then use 1/4" hardy board for the inside liner. Make standoffs from 1/2" emt so you don't crush the wool. Mine takes 15 minutes to heat up and is cool to the touch on the outside.

I use 3 ea. 500 watt elements in the bottom . Be aware the hardy board will become glass hard next to the elements.

If it isn't too late, look into the Hi Temp insulation board in the following link. It's made just for what you're building.

Elevated Temperature Board | Knauf Insulation

You won't find this stuff in Home Depot of Lowes. You may have to find an Industrial supply who deals with the manufacturer.

Oh I almost forgot, It ain't cheep.
