Re: picking up my 5R in 308

Rumor has it they only build ~500 a year of each caliber in the 5r. My guess is that you are going to like it. dump that trigger, bed the stock or get a new one and you probably have a real shooter

Re: picking up my 5R in 308

You cant go wrong with the mil spec. Mine has shot great(1/2" MOA) since day one with 168 Federal Match and even better with Berger VLD handloads.

Good luck!

Re: picking up my 5R in 308

Look at the TPS that swfa.com sells I really really like the looks and feel of it and its steel. I would say it compares to a NF, USO, or Seekings base.

Re: picking up my 5R in 308

I just bought one last fall. I only have about 30-40 rounds through it. I can't wait for the weather to get warmer so I can really put some rounds through it. I'm pretty happy with it so far.

Re: picking up my 5R in 308 pics added

My 5R is sitting at my FFL just waiting to pick it up and start shooting it. Are you going to put any mods on it or leave it stock?

no mods yet spent all I had on this. will save up for glass first, then a stock, I have a Lupy 3x10x40 VX-3 that i will stick on it for now. Had to replace my wife's alternator on a 2000 nissan sentra yesterday, and if i had 1000.00 for every time i said fucking cunt I could retire. so that set me back right out of the holeshot never fails.

not yet but I am thinking either Mark 4 or NF. Problem is every time I get $$$$$$ save up for toys, something else rears it ugly head and there goes my $$$$$$ to pay for that. just like my wife's alternator on her car going out that i replaced yesterday.

Re: picking up my 5R in 308

I've been thinking about getting one of these (or a SPS-T) but haven't made up my mind yet. Birthday isn't till May so I've got a little more time to decide. Seeing threads like this really push me towards getting one of these.....

Re: picking up my 5R in 308 pics added

Something to keep in mind with rails is how far they extend past the front of the receiver. Many popular rails are of the extended variety, which may cause interference issues depending on the scope you use.

I opted for a 15 MOA Leupold Mark 4 rail, which is fairly short. It just clears the AO on my USO scope. An extended rail would have required that I mount the scope too far forward (or jack it up with taller rings to clear the rail).

my problem is that most LOP are too long for me If i could I would cut down all my stocks 1/2 to 3/4". I have to set my scopes back as far back as possible. on all my hunting rigs I have 2pc bases and end up stretching my neck as far forward possible to get a good site picture, and I want to try a 1pc base on this rifle to see if it will get me that 1/2" to 3/4" that I need.

Re: picking up my 5R in 308

This is a Weaver 20moa picatinny extended rail, which comes highly recommended by LoneWolfUSMC. I was originally going to go with an EGW, but his review of this base really caught my eye. It has a built in recoil lug that mates up perfectly with the rifle. It would be one of my suggestions, pending your budget obviously.

Re: picking up my 5R in 308

Congrats on your new rifle. I'm a newby. This is my first bolt rifle. I just got my 5r 2 weeks ago. I ordered the standard weaver picatinny rail and the weaver tactical low rings. I have not mounted them yet, hope they work well with scope and gun. I have not had a chance to mount anything yet. I can't wait to shoot it.

Thats nice man. I like the teflon coating. Did you do it yourself? I also like the bolt knob, how hard was that to install?

Thanks man, I like her alot myself. I had the teflon, bolt, & threading done at a local shop. I thought about doing the bolt knob myself but the guy gave me a good deal to do it all at once.

Remove the 2 action screws from the old stock.

Drop action into AICS.

Tighten 2 screws.

Re: picking up my 5R in 308 pics added

t choice, I like my 24" so much that when i saw the new 20" factory threaded the other day I had to grab one. I have a McCree coming monday for the 20" and a AI 2.0 for the 24" Both are threaded and shoot awesome. I'm running the Leupy 20moa rail on the 20" and the NF 20moa one piece on the 24"

Jensen Arms?

Re: picking up my 5R in 308 pics added

Realizing this thread is old, when Jensen has something like that in stock, go RIGHT THEN. Not later. Not when you get off of work. RIGHT the HELL then.

They are where I bought my 700SS-5R and they had 3 when i called, when i got there, I got the last one.

My father in law had them call him for a handgun he was waiting for. They called. He went right over. They sold it before he got there. They will not reserve guns generally. He is LE and kind of threw a fit when he got there so the next time they got that model in, they set one aside for him for the time for him to get there.

But as a regular joe, expect that anyone else can buy whatever it is you wanted to buy before you get there... so haul ass if you REALLY want whatever it is.
