This will be my first quality bolt gun and I wanted to hear what you all thought. It has a 1/12 twist rate and I see that 1/10 would be prefered. It's a deal i can't really pass and was wondering, for your first bolt gun, would you pull the trigger on a 700 SPS tactical? Thanks.

Re: Picking up Rem 700 SPS for first rifle

Absolutely.
The SPS tactical in .308 has a very good rep for accuracy whether in 1-12 or 1-10.

The 1-12 will stabilize up to 175 grain bullets without a problem, it most liklely won't stabilize the 190 or 208 grain bullets.

No matter, the 175 pill is gtg for shots over 1000.

The plan is to use 150-175 if I can. I'm just getting started and learning so target shooting at various ranges (100-300) for now.

I hear there's a 1000 yard range in VA, but I haven't found it yet. It would be awesome to try some longer shots (600+).
