Just wanted to share some pictures of my new steel target and stand. I forgot to snap some pics of everything actually setup in the desert, but I thought I'd share my experience anyways.
I have no vested interested in either company I'm about to mention. My point is to share with the Hide my experience and hopefully gain some feedback from you guys as well.
I purchased the steel target from shootsteel.com. The target stand brackets are from gongshot.com. I believe both companies offer a good bang for the buck IMO. I particularly like this target stand setup, because it sits well even on uneven ground and requires no tools to setup. It can be broken down into individual pieces and carried over the shoulder very easily to the target destination. I used 5' sticks of black gas pipe for the legs and a 4' piece for the crossbar. You could use 6' sticks but I knew I was going to be hoofing this stand out into the desert, and figured 5' was enough to raise it over the bushes and be light enough to carry as well.
Next time I go out I will be securing a flag somehow to the stand in order to show a wind reading at the target. I found out that our range finder didn't do worth a shit past 500 yds. So we had to mil our distances. Not a big deal, but I'd of rather just been able to use the LRF and I also got to teach some of my buds how to mil so that was cool. However, I will be investing in a good one here shortly. We found out the hard way, how much of a difference a good spotting scope with a wide field of view makes. It's hard to find a 12" target in the desert with a small FOV.
Steel was shot at 555 yds with a full value 10-15mph winds. Not the best, but I'm learning.
And a couple pics of the MWS...
