I didn't experience any issues with heat and we were out in the sun quite a bit. The class was in June and temps were around 100 degrees.
During one stage, the entire class was broken down into 2 man teams. We used Costa's OBR. Each team would run up, shooter 1 would engage 5 targets, then shooter 2 would do the same. Then both students would engage a few targets from another postion with their own rifles.
This stage went fairly quickly, and if there was going to be an issue with the fore end over heating, it would have show it's self on this stage. No issues the handguard getting so hot that it was uncomfortable to hold or touch.
I'm sure if you shot enough rounds down range fast enough you could get the handguard where it was too hot to hold, but experienced no issues in class with 3 different guys running OBR's.
