I am gonna try and reload some pistol. 45 acp, 40sw, 9mm, i was wondering what brand to use i dont know if i should get rainiers or berrys or someother brand. Plated, hollowpoint, fmj, what and why? Also which grains should i get for each, something that will work good in different pistols, i have several. I was thinking 115s or 124s for the 9mm. 40 180s? and i am sure 230s for the 45. thanks for the help for this rookie pistol loader

Look at Precision Delta. You have to buy in qtys of 2000 but can mix lots of 1000. They have good prices and prices include shipping.

For 9mm, I like the 124gr, For 45, the 230gr FMJ's, and 40 the 165gr.

I load the 124's as I can get the to subsonic and good heavy loads if need be.
No real reason for the 40's or 45, just what I have loaded and had good results.

Can also try powder valley for Berrys. Or xtreme bullets has a good deal on bullets also. We've been using 124's in the 9 mm and 230's in the .45's.

I only load for 45 and 40 in pistol but for those calibers I prefer Rainer plated bullets, no real reason to pick them over Berry’s other than I can usually find the Rainer bullets for a little cheaper.

In the 45 for powder puff loads I like the 200 grain RN bullets sitting on top of about 4.1 grains of Clays. For full power loads I like the 230 grain RN bullets on top of BlueDot, about 9.3 grains.

For the 40 when I want bunny fart loads I use the 155 grain Rainer bullets on top of 3.3 grains of Clays. I’ve only used 155’s so far for the 40 but 9.1 grains of BlueDot makes for a great full power round.

The Rainer bullets are plenty accurate for plinking and general target shooting in both calibers and all loads but would probably not be my first choice if I was going to enter a competition. I’m also beginning load development for Nosler JHP bullets in both calibers, 135 grain for the 40 and 185 for the 45 for high accuracy rounds. I don’t have any concrete data yet on these bullets but several friends have nothing but good things to say about them.
