My son and i have been shooting our pistols alot lately and we have a few places to set up and shoot. Can anyone refer me to some web sights or ideas to make or purchase some steel targets and other things to set up and shoot. I have a van i use to beat around in and can haul it in their. WE shoot 9-40-10 and 45 calibers. If maybe you have some pictures you can post them. Thanks alot, DAN

Take a walk down a railroad track. You'll find tie plates, (the plates used to spike the rails to the ties). They work loose from the rail/tie and are replace. You normally find the old ones just laying along side the track.

That are about the right size, they are hard enough for heavy rifles and they are cheap.

You might go to a railroad section house and they will give you the old ones if you dont want to walk the rails.

They have square holes for the spikes. While you're at it, pick up some old spikes (also along the track) poke the spike through the hole, and weld the back side. That will keep you from using the excuse of "I hit it, it just went through the spike hole".

UHHH be careful with picking up plates and spikes, they are property of the railroad company, you can be charged with trespassing and theft by taking.

Most of the time the RR company will send a train with a big assed electromagnet to pick everything up and dump it into an empty car. The plates and spikes may set there for a while but they are still property of the RR company.
