I'm looking for a QUALITY true 1X scope that works great at very close distances, as well at 600 yds. I'm putting it on my S&W M&P10 and will be shooting 175 SMK loads. So far I've been eyeballing the SS 1-6, Vortex Razor 1-6, and Leupold. Any input would be appreciated, thanks!

I've looked through the new USO SR-8 and I liked it a lot. I need a new scope for my 3-gun rifle and it's going to be the SR-8 or Viper HD II. Still on the fence on how much I want to spend. $2500 (red dot model) or $1300 is a huge difference.

The gem of the 3gun world from my reading right now is the Swaro Z6i 1-6x. It is likely has the best optics in a true 1x scope on the market, by most accounts. USO is supposed to have a 1-8x, not sure if its out yet, but it has a daylight visible red dot in the eye piece and the specs look good, though heavy... Maybe someone here has had their hands on one. The Leupy Mark 6 and VX6 1-6's look pretty cool so far.
I am pretty impressed with the Trijicon 1-4x with the very bright triangle, great glass for $750ish, it is way high value. The Meopta is daylight visible too with excellent glass for a hair little more than the Trij. I haven't looked myself, but I hear the Nightforce's aren't quite daylight visible. If you're able to spend $2k or more, the Leupold Mark6 1-6x, USO SR-8 1-8x, Bushnell 1-8.5x, or Trijicon VCOG 1-6x should be on your short list.
Can't knock any of those suggestions. Personally, I have the Leupold VX6 1-6 and love it for about half the price of the above, though about 2x more mag would be nice for my tired eyes past 250 yds. If you want to spend more, look at the SFP March 1-8.

AFAIK they don't yet. But they should. Are you listening Vortex? There's a bigger market for the Razor 1-6x than just 3-gunners!
Are you banging steel or going for groups type of stuff at 600yards.?.. My vortex 1-4 pst dot damm near covers up an entire 6" shoot n see target at 300yards so your target would need to be rather large even for a 6x at 600yards. If youre run and gun or 3gun type stuff then hook up with the 1-6, but if all you do is sit at a bench and shoot from 100 to 600 yards then you will wish you got something more powerful like a 4-16x....
If a guy had about $3000 laying around, it'd be hard to top these two badass's:

I will mostly be shooting steel but I do like to shoot for accuracy way out there on paper also. I thought the firedot in the center of the crosshairs was .5MOA, being what I thought would be small enough for precision work. Being a SFP scope, I figured the crosshair/dot would cover about 3" at 600 on 6X, and would be 3MOA dot when on 1X. Do the crosshairs really cover that much target? Hmmm, maybe I better try to see these side-by-side.

I seriously dont know why everyone is hung up on groups unless this is competition specific. I have the Vortex 1-6x HD on my battle rifle which is a 16" LWRC REPR, in my case this gun isn't made for groups...I just want to hit the target a bunch of times. If you had to go for groups hypothetically speaking the same scope with a different reticle would be freakin' bad azz! When Vortex does come out with a different reticle I will be all over it, it would be a killer setup. The glass is great and I LOVE the low profile windage and elevation knobs, but on the current 1-6x HD once the 200 yard zero is set up there is absolutely no need to play with the knobs. The BDC reticle does everything for you. This is just my limited opinion.
I'm very pleased with the Bushnell ET 1-6.5/FFP/BTR2. True 1x, illuminated horseshoe-dot reticle, with a Mil based vertical post with 10 mils in the reticle. I've used it to on steel 800 yards with my SPRish 5.56. Great scope!
I i liked the mark 6 1-6 tmr-d. One 1x it is like a red dot, on 6 it is more than enough to shoot groups with.
the reason why I love going for groups with my AR's rather than banging steel is I like to know for a fact what me & my rifle's accuracy is capable of right down to the .005"... don't get me wrong, I love shooting steel and listening for the "gong" and is load of fun (matter of fact my nephew and myself just got done doing such),,,, and yes you can measure off of steel, but I like being able to take my target home with multiple groups on one big PC of cardboard paper, and knowing for a fact what my rifle / reloading is capable of,,,,,, and then using that information for future purposes in terms of reloading and how to improve myself... unless a target of mine is a total waste of time, I keep every single one of my targets with reloading info written right on the target for future purposes.... Unless I'm hitting 3.140" steel plates at 300yards, or maybe a chest pc size steel plate @ 1000yards and knowing I'm sub-moa when I here that "gong", I feel like I get more satisfaction out of punching holes in paper for groups..... then I know right down to the math fact of what I'm doing and I'm just not flinging bullets down range waiting for a "gong" sound. Not only do I want to know for a fact of what my rifle can do, but I want to know I'm not wasting my time reloading every single time I hit the range...... This is not everyone's cup of tea, but it floats my boat. Trust me though, shooting for groups can be a big mind f#ck...... it is much harder shooting for groups and shooting for bullseye rather than banging steel as you know right down to the .005" what mistakes you're making..... My problem is I'm an estimator by trade so I'm a big time numbers man.... Lets face it,,, if you're going for bug hole groups even at 100yards you're going to wish you had a high power scope and not something 1-4 or 1-6.... when everything boils down to it, it is all based on purpose..... if you want something fast and quick get a 1-4 or red dot... if you're going for the smallest stupid "sniper type" group you can get then you better get a high powered scope set up.... it is just time and time again, and this goes for myself, and my friends, and about 3/4 of the people on these forums = most of us are just punching holes in paper....... when you first start out shooting an AR, you get a non-free float red dot sight and start shooting paper at 50yards and then you progress up to 100yards, then you wish you had a scope so you get a 1-6 power, but then you can't get bug hole size groups OR start shooting at 200 or 300yards, and then the next thing you know you have a friggen 4-16x plus scope sitting on your rig... it is just the way of the world UNLESS you have a purpose built AR for fast acquisition type stuff like hog hunting, law enforcement, 3-gun stuff, war, or whatever......... then yes, get a 1-6 or red dot....... if you think 95% of your shooting will be off a bench at your local range (which is prob more than 1/2 of the people here I'd bet) shooting at paper targets starting at 100yards, and then 200yards, and then 300yards, and then 400yards, and blah blah blah and then wonder why you're group sizes are so big in comparison to everyone else,,,,,, then you will wish you had a higher power scope... it really is just based on purpose and what is more important for you... That is why I have 3 different AR set ups........
1 @ bull barrel varmint 5.56 with a 4-16x for shooting bug hole groups "sniping" type shit and possible varmint hunting 300yards plus
1 @ heavy 3-gun with a 1-4 power scope
1 @ home defense rifle with a red dot scope
out of all of the rifles in my collection including my LMT, the first rifle that I grab out of the safe to hit the range with and have the most fun with is my bug hole shooting 5.56 bull barrel varmint rock river arms.... there is just something about picking up a rifle and knowing that I can punch a hole in literally a dime at 100yards ever single time I pull the trigger = massively fun for me.

I'm not the best shot in the world, but I think I'm a bit above average I would say... this might give you an idea of what you can get out of a red dot and a 1-4 power scope at 100yards.... you can double the group size for 200, and triple the group size for 300yards to give you an idea.... my friggen vortex 1-4 power vortex dot damn near covers an entire 6" shoot-n-see target at 300yards.

my 3gun set up with 1-4power vortex & 100yard target = average was just a tad below 1moa which is actually really fucking good for a 1-4 scope when it is hard enough with a 4-16 power scope.... BTW, notice my funky looking targets below??? I just recently picked up the SWFA SS HD 1-6x24mm and have been pretty impressed with it so far. I got it on my Mega build with Noveske Afghan barrel. I definitely like it over the Razor and haven't had the chance to play with the others listed. At $1k it's a pretty good deal.
Do you own a Razor also? What makes you prefer the SWFA over the Razor? These are the two that I'm trying to decide between. Thanks-
A couple buddies of mine own Razors. It's MOA for one and I personally don't care for the reticle. It's a good scope by all means, I just really like the SS. It's my first SS and never even seen one in person, before my purchase, so I was worried I wouldn't like it. I was wrong.
I did own a 5-20x50mm Razor which was very nice.
Some of the other offerings look pretty sweet but I'm not paying $2k plus for a 1-6x to put on a AR.
I'm a big fan of low powered variable scopes on ar platforms. the swarovski 1-6 is one of my favorites by far, kahles has a really nice 1-6 out as well. but given your price point, I'd add a little and get into that swarovski.
I like alot of the scope's you guys are talking about. I currently have a 1 year old March deon 1-10x scope for sale. It has a couple small scratches and has been used about three times. Im selling to buy a bushnell hdmr for my 308. Initially I purchased the scope for 2600$ plus the larue mount. I am selling it for 1989$ on the hide. If you guys have any questions please let me know. Fatelvis you ever thought about a set up with a scope on top and a small red dot on a 45 degree for quick close shots? I am setting up my POF AR with a Vortex 2.5-10x32 in a Warne RAMP mount and a Burris Fastfire III on the 45. I like having the ability to have at least a 10x scope for precision at longer distances but also the dot for close shots. Especially with a .308 AR I would want some scope power to take full advantage of the round.
I have a Vortex 1-6x on my 3 gun Seekins SP3G and it's an excellent optic which i really like for it's purpose but with the reticle I wouldn't use it with a rifle that can reach well past 600 yards which the reticle is set up for. Kind of like neutering the rifle.
