Please talk me out of a new handgun, the Glock 19x

Just buy them all. Shoot it. Get over liking/disliking (insert gun brand here) and get on with burning powder and sending lead into things....
I wasn't shooting at things that were underwater, I myself was actually fully submerged underwater and fired the gun. I think it's safe to say I have a history of doing stupid shit and this was no different. Morbid curiosity got the best of me that day. In case there's anyone who doesn't know what happens when you do this, I'll give my quick analysis. First off, the recoil is much more significant which is a given due to the water that the bullet has to displace in the barrel. Second off, the muzzle report is a bit hard to describe, but the best way I can describe it is the sound of a wet sponge smacking you in the ear. Finally and was most intriguing to me, was the distance the bullet traveled. Or should I say lack of distance. I knew the bullet wouldn't make it to the other end of the pool, but I didn't think it would barely go like 3 or 4 feet before shattering like glass. I'm sure I would have gotten different results if I had used FMJ ammo, but I was using self defense HP ammo instead. Spent like an hour drying the gun off with a hair dryer and then back into the pool I went to pick out all the larger bits bits of lead and copper and then called it a day and let the pump do the rest of the work with the smaller bits I couldn't get.
After gawking at this train wreck of a thread I had to look up what exactly the 19x is.
IMO the opposite of what you want to carry or shoot. Huge grip that few hands need and a shorter barrel and sight radius than what you can easily stuff inside a waistband.
If your ego can bear a Glock, get a G19 Gen frame and put a G17 slide on it via a Lone Wolf conversion barrel and a little metal insert to cover the gap under the mainspring. You can even put the G34 slide on the compact frame.
What prints under your garments, interferes with your car seat or bangs against corners? A long slide or a huge grip?

Stick with the M9A3.

.mil wanted modularity that only SIG offered and the new Gestapo carries Google, Facebook, etc.
I guess I didnt realize you could do that. I agree that a 19 grip with 17 or even 34 slide would be more useful.
The mil has been dicking with new sidearms for years and each and every time figured the expenditure was not worth the benefit.
Guys that actually need pistols get what they need while I think over 90 percent of issued sidearms are nothing more than symbolic.
Pretty sure just before or after Newtown .mil bought a shit ton of spares committing to M9.
Beretta comes out pro 2A after Newtown and even moves out of anti gun state to pro gun.
Two or three weeks before leaving office Obam signs big contract using other peoples money.
Sure Sigs are good and modularity is required in a "diverse" mil but I just find years of no followed by a lets do this as I head out the door interesting. The internal serialed frame is a huge benefit to .mil.
Im not a Beretta fan in any way, think the pistol is huge, M9A3 does look to address that though and likely could have used up most of existing spares.
Here are some pix:
Top is compact frame with full-size slide. Bottom is regular full-size.
Components:
Daily carry version with RMR milled into a full-size .357 SIG slide/barrel. Longer slide and barrel reduce recoil while increasing velocity. A tall suppressor front sight and a white vertical bar on the back of the RMR make acquiring the red dot much easier and serve as a backup. The two +2 mags on the other hip balance the loaded gun nicely.
We live on a larger property in the woods and this is mainly for putting down tasty or hostile four-legged critters, which this combo does nicely even beyond 50 yards. In a defensive scenario, multiple shots with the .357 SIG will take longer than with a 9mm but that is offset by better barrier penetration (e.g. nut cases behind automotive windshields).

Get the gen 5 17, not the 19x. I had the honor of being issued a 17M and love it plan on picking up a gen 5 17 for personal use.
Alpine 44, nice choice in leather! Love the summer special. Sparks makes some kick ass holsters. Been Using a 19 in a VM II for quite a few years. Gets better with age!
I just bought the HK VP9 SK and I want to throw all my Glocks in the trash. Simply no comparison on the ease of shooting the HK accurately. Glock is now light years behind HK and Sig. The triggers on these new pistol are awesome and Glocks have the same old shitty trigger and just plain ugly gun.
Milt Sparks holsters are definitely worth the 12-18 week wait (or having to hawk ebay for month). I bought the Summer Special four years ago while looking for a deal on a Versa Max. To my surprise, the Summer Special is rock solid even with its belt loops so much closer together. When I mounted the RMR there was no turning back. On the VM 2 the front loop would have interfered with the hood of the RMR.
There is some truth to this sentiment and if I have to bet a lot of money on one well-aimed long shot, I'll pick my P229 or a HK over the Glocks.
There is also a story (don't know whether true) where a gun manufacturer's executive slammed a Glock on the table in front of his engineers and barked "Just copy the G** d*** thing". These days are definitely over for Glock.
However, I have alternated between Glock, SIG, and HK pistols in our weekly defensive scenario matches (think IDPA from concealment) and there is no measurable difference at the end of the day. If you do not flinch, heel, push, or jerk, the difference in trigger crispness is negligible in this context. Draw, movement, aiming, and timing wins the day - and looks is my least concern for a CCW.

M9A3 with the Streamlight TLV-VIR2
Glock19x with Trijicon RMR and Surefire X300V
For direct comparisans, I actually like Streamlight lights over the Surefires mainly due to the quick activation on the Streamlight is easier/more natural. If Surefire would change their quick activation from the 'poke your finger foreward' to the swivel with much less force to overcome like the Streamlight has, it would be the best of both worlds. I prefer Surefire's lockout bezel method.
You can't really compare the Beretta and Glock19x. So instead of using pissing contest arguments, I'm good with both and utilize them differently; each at what they seem to be better at for my purposes.
Glock has the Trijicon RMR on it and the raised front tritium suppressor site and blacked out rear sight. When zero'd the red dot cowitnesses with the top tip of the front sight. This is ideal for pistol shooting with an ANVIS 9/dual nightvision tubes as the RMR dot shows up just like it would during the day. The main thing I have to teach people is that with the NV on, you need to keep a constant position with your head not tilting forward as there can be what amounts to basically parallax through the NV with the red dot. The IR illuminator on the pistol in conjunction with the RMR dot are a perfect night time combo for shooting with dual tubes.
Beretta is the G model with no safety and has the tritium front sight and blacked out rear sight. This helps it not get lost with the 2 rear dots during quick pistol presentation at night. Assuming you are using a single unit PVS14 over your weak side eye, the lack of RMR on the Beretta allows you to put the image from your strong side (naked) eye looking at/pst the tritium together in your brain with the weak side eye looking through the PVS14 and being able to see everything else. This wouldn't work with the PVS14 on your strong side, nor with dual tubes, as the pistol sight will be too close to your face unless you focused down to like 2 feet infront of you; which would only make your potential target a giant blob.
I'll be honest in that I always prefered DA/SA sidearms at night time. Both shoot extremely well. My only complaint about the Beretta is that after a couple thousand draws, I've managed to wear matching lines down both sides of the cerakote finish from the muzzle until about midway back, and I had the muzzle thread protector come loose on me once. Glock feels like a compact/carry gun after shooting the full sized Beretta a while, but the Beretta has a bit less muzzle flip probably due to its weight and possibly larger grip area (guessing at that part, but you can tell theres a difference)
I've shot everything from Wolf (which I shoot a lot of at paper), the 115g LEO 'training ammo', to both the Winchester and S&B NATO spec 124g P+ ammo with zero issues in either gun. One Glock mag was replaced as it liked to not hold open on last round but was a sole magazine issue.
I use Safariland holsters and a G-Code duty mount so I can switch pistols whenever I want, without changing anything on my setup or having to take shit off/move shit around. This lets me change from the M9A3 to the Glock, to an HK or my 1911 whenever I want.

If you’ve gotta go Austrian, Steyr is the best gun Glock never made. Excellent reliability, high undercut yields flat recoil, metal factory sights, excellent trigger, and ergonomics fit like no other pistol. The slide rides on four machined rails, not little metal tabs. Meager aftermarket, but who cares? Would you send in perfect tits for an enhancement?
As to the fruitcakes whining about the trapezoidal sight arrangement - they fucking work. Fast, instinctive. They weren’t designed for precision shooting, but for fast, accurate rounds on target. If you end up failing to grasp the genius of the sights, Trijicon and others make tritium sights with standard peasant three-posts.

I confess, it wasn't me. I couldn't go through with it, so I hired some dude in the parking lot of Home Depot to cover for me.
First, yes the Glock feels like a child’s shop project made with a jig saw and 2x4. You can definitely get used to it as I now shoot mine better than my 1911 and that was not always the case.
That said, the 19x is stupid. they took a gun made for concealment and added grip length so it is now as hard to conceal as a 17 but has the shorter sight radius of the 19. If you need more ammo stick a bigger mag in the 19.
I have run glocks on 3 continents and as long as you clean the extractor every few thousand rounds they WORK. Ihave not had a jam in about 5 years now and I shoot a good bit.
I acknowledge that they are not the pistol for the discerning handgun connoisseur, but it sounds like you have got that covered. They are absolutely the best fighting pistol on earth right now though, and that gives them an elegance that is unique.

I LOVE my P07 and P09. I need to build my stable of P10's.
Got a P-10F Optics Ready a couple of weeks ago. So far I'm digging it, but the grip is much smaller than the P-09/P-07. Sorta feels like a Shadow 2 grip.
Liking my p320 much better than my Glocks. Shot a 1911 for years and picked up my first glock in 2014 for the inaugural Trijicon World Shoot. Hated the trigger then, hate it now. Still a slight left tinge to my groups, like 90%+ of the experienced shooters I see using them when they attempt to shoot pinpoint with it. It works, and you can learn it "good enough", but for many the trigger will forever be an accuracy limiter. Bought the m17 when it dropped to try. 2K rounds + and it has been flawless, and much easier to hit small targets with. A 320 compact or m18 is in my future if it is ever released.
