i am thinking about getting the POF .308 in 16" for my new playing around gun....how do they do on extended ranges?....the gun will likely never be shot beyond 600-800yards due to its prime duty being that of a truck gun...

i have shot POF's before but never beyond 100yards...

Re: POF .308

The 16" P-308 rifles are capable of sub-MOA accuracy at those ranges with proper ammo and assuming that your abilities don't limit the rifle.

For those ranges with a shorter barreled 308, I like the lighter 155gr Scenars as opposed to 175gr SMKs and similar bullets. The 155gr Scenars allow you to regain some of the MV you lose with the 16" as compared to the 20" barrels.

FWIW...I don't know why you think you'd need a "truck gun" capable of 800yd shots, but the 16" POF will get the job done!

Lowlight has 16" POF and it rocks at those distances all day long. Mine is 20" so I can only tell you what it can do, AND IT CAN DO!!!

RELENTLESS RELIABILITY

Additionally 1265 rounds of various types and brands of .308 ammunition were fired through the POF rifle in CQB drills in one afternoons range session by several shooters. We found that most shooters could easily fire four rounds in under one second while running rhythm drills. There were absolutely no stoppages encountered during any of our testing.

You need to download adobe acrobat reader for .PDF files.

Also, I have an 18" AR 308 and would rather have a 20" or 22". Little bit of extra velocity would be nice. For a "truck gun" though I think 16 would be just fine.

Re: POF .308

I love my POF P308 16.5", it chrony's 2515 fps with FGMM 168 on average. The farthest I've shot it was 600 yards in Houston. (It grouped better than my brothers stock rem 700 sps).
