Poll: Do you shoot cheap/fmj/surplus .308 ammo???

Re: Poll: Do you shoot cheap/fmj/surplus .308 ammo???

Only running bolt guns and shooting matches right now so everything I have been shooting has been hand loaded match ammo. I run factory reloads and cheap stuff through my G34 though :)

Nothing wrong with a Creedmoor and good factory ammo; most of us on here started out with 308s they have their place.

A Creedmoor is a better performer all around wind, distance, and recoil. With that said you will only get about half the barrel life out of it. They all wear out so it’s not a big deal...

A 308 if you are starting out will help your wind calls (bullet BCs are not as high as 6.5mm and moving slower), you will learn to drive the rifle (more recoil to deal with), and with out reloading match ammo is a little easier to come by.

I have both and unless it is a 308 only match I shoot my Creedmoor.

I am sure more people can add to that but I think that is the short and sweet of it.

I would not consider most regular FMJ crap ammo....mil surplus or corrosive ammo falls into that category for me. And of the the two, the only one I will shoot it mil surplus that is non-corrosive FMJ that wont jack up my barrel. Accuracy might not be great but who cares when I am shooting steel plates or reactive targets. I rarely shoot match ammo out of my armalite ar-10a2 bc it does so well with just 147gr fmj south african surplus....its more than accurate.

Now, the sniper rifle gets fed nothing but Southwest Ammo's best stuff....so its not expensive to shoot. But I am not going to put crap ammo that doesnt shoot sub moa in a weapon designed to shoot sub moa groups.

Oh, and I would not consider Magtech and some others to be crap ammo...just bc its FMJ does not mean its total crap...its just not match and is made for plinking. It has its place.

I have had a number of rifles that I reloaded for in 223 and 308 that I loaded cheap FMJ bullets (some even had serious pull marks) that shot sub moa to 300 yards. They hit the target just fine, so why would I pay $30/100 when I could pay $10/100 or Less and do the same thing. An "X" is an "X" in highpower shooting.

Bolt = FGMM as I want to squeeze as much accuracy out of it as I'm capable

AR = Both FGMM and other to see what it will do...JaxOps
