If money was no object, out of the following what brand of scope would be your 1st choice for a top-of-the-line precision bolt gun? If you check "other", can you specify what brand. <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">Apologies to US Optics owners I mistakenly left it off the list, I'm not sure how to amend the poll to include it now.</span></span>

There's been 16 votes and I'm the only one that voted hensoldt? I think a lot of people just vote for what they own because they want to think it's the best. I don't currently own a hensoldt, I have all S&B, but if they were priced equally I would have all hensoldts.

$7000 is a bargain for all the unobtanium that they put into these scopes. They fill it with meteor gas as well. Ive heard the meteor gas compensates for the corialis effect.

IOR is not on the list either, they are kind of second rate but still, they are better than Leupold . The new IOR Terminator with the 40mm tube looks like it could give someone a beating.

I've shot them and don't see enough difference to make me want one of them or two of mine, plus for a "top tier" scope they are lacking features.

First off, my post had nothing to do with trying to start and argument, just stating my direct observations as I have used every scope mentioned. Secondly, he directly stated that money is no object, so your reasoning for voting for USO is not relevant. I don't see how you can think that if money isn't an object that USO and Hensoldt are equals. I don't believe I've ever read of a Hensoldt having dust in the reticle, but I have experienced this first hand with a USO and read lots more posts where users had similar experiences. Hell, just the other day a guy was showing me a USO and when he tried to adjust the parallax the entire front part of the scope began to screw off.

USO is not in the same category as S&B or Hensoldt, saying that clearly shows a willful ignorance of the truth. I bet you would prefer a Cadillac over a Porsche as well just because it was made in America. Also a Warranty is great and all but I don’t think it should be considered when comparing scope quality. As far as I am concerned the ranking goes like this.

Best: S&B: Hensoldt:
Almost best: March: Premier:
Next best: USO: Nightforce: IOR: Vortex Razor
Still ok: Leupold

These polls are always interesting, but they are always reflections of personal preferences, subjective observations, individual requirements, etc. At the end of the day, the "BEST" scope is going to be the "BEST" scope for the individual, with a specific purpose or purposes in mind that meets the individuals needs/requirements. For example, what I might chose for a particular "precision bolt gun" would suck at the job I have a different "precision bolt gun" setup to do. To carry it a step further...I'm not going to chose that same scope for "precision bolt gun" No. 1 which is say a 600yd .223 paper/steel/occassional varmint gun when compared to the scope I would mount on "precision bolt gun" No. 2 which is an extreme long range 408CT.

FWIW...I voted "Other" just to see the results of the stupid poll.

I find your entire post fatuious. Cost is not the only measure of a scopes worth. Because Hensoldt is the most expensive, it wins by default? Surely you jest.....

Frankly I have no use for a scope with a 56mm objective, 34mm tube and the grand choice of two reticles. I have no quarrel, with the glass, quality of controls, and overall performance of the Hensoldt, but I do object to it's size and it's mount-ability.

In your small world, $ signs and the ability to read the front page of the NY Times at 500 yds, is apparently all that counts.

However, prosaic it may sound, some of us still value 30mm tubes for low mounting, various reticle choices, turret flexibility, and the ability to exactly fit the scope to the rifle, rather than altering the rifle to fit the scope.

In short, your right Hensoldt and USO are not equals. An oversized, unflexible Teutonic cookie cutter, even with outstanding glass and build quality, is not the only choice, nor necessarily the best choice, for some applications.

I never said that because hensoldt is the most expensive it is the best. You pulled that one out of your ass. The poll was intended to select the best scope regardless of cost, and I believe that to be the hensoldt. If you put cost as a factor I would go with S&B, and that is why I own 5 of them. I agree more reticle choices would make the hensoldt better, but I really like the nh1. I could see an argument for people liking premier or S&B better than the hensoldt, and possibly the new March if it lives up to the hype, but not USO. You can keep your less than stellar glass and dust in your reticle, and I'll keep my 34mm tube monsters.

I disagree about them being oversized. The Hensoldt scopes (3-12x56 and 4-16x56) are actually some of the most compact and <span style="font-style: italic">relatively</span> lightweight tactical scopes made, when compared to other 50mm or larger objective tactical scopes.

I have a USO SN-3. I voted for S&B. Just because they've been the standard in the industry for years from what i understand, it's hard to go wrong with one if your willing to lay down the cash. Hendsolts are apparently in the same league but i know less about them which is why i chose S&B. Also the Hendsolt is lacking zero stop and many reticle choices, which i like. Having only used one high end scope (USO) and having no complaints whatsoever for the money i would probably buy another. And more than likely will for next precision rifle. But i do want to try out S&B, Hendsolt, NF, premier, and Vortex down the road of my lifetime to see what else i like. When it all comes down to it alot of people get worked up over this crap lol.

This is just directed towards all the arguing that is going to pursue over this thread..
Trying to decide between these scopes comes down to preferences and "likes". I guarantee there is a hendsolt or a S&B in the world that has been messed up and come out of the factory or what not, after all the designers are only human. Noone can convince me that any of the brands above haven't produced a lemon at one time or the other. Pick what you think you like hopefully it goes well for you, enjoy your high quality optic like i do mine

I'm in the same boat. I don't agree that they are second rate. In fact, as an owner of an IOR, they are at the very least one of the best values currently on the market. You would have to pay quite a bit more to get all of the same features from a different source.

I went with other=IOR

Second rate? I hate to make assumptions on your expertise but calling IOR second rate and saying that leupys are "still ok" is bold. You have your own experiences but I totally disagree, I have both and I'd take an IOR every day over my Leupy. and I really like my Leupy...

I voted for S&B. Hensoldts have better glass, but the S&B has greater elevation range, which, at the distances I shoot, is necessary. If it was not, I would choose Hensoldt.

I think your both misunderstanding me. I have nothing against Hensoldt. They make a fine scope. And they are short front to rear, and relatively light. But they are also tall.

Does Hensoldt make a Tactical scope with less than a 34mm Tube? Or one with less than a 56MM objective?

I can mount my 30mm tubed, 44mm Objective, USO lower to the receiver than I can a Hensoldt, S&B (34mm tube), or Premier (34mm Tube). That's a virtue I find compelling and useful to ME.

Or if I wish to go another way, I can get a 34mm or 35mm tubed USO. And I can still have a choice of different parallax controls, numerous reticles, turret locations, with or without illumination.

I am willing to give up something, uber glass quality, to get something in return; flexibility in the build and low mounting height if I want it.

There is nothing wrong with your choice for you, whether it's Hensoldt, S&B, Premier, NF. I chose differently for reasons other than the glass inside. Because I believe there is more to a scope than just lenses.......

Others may value things differently, and that's ok by me.

S&B and Hensoldt are both on my top, S&B edges out slightly with me because of my love for the single turn turrets and the Hennie 6-24x is SFP only.. But its purely a personal preference issue. I liked the options on my USO, and it was built like a German tank but like many others I had dust on glass issues, lots of dust.

Out of your list, I am liking the NF based on cost/quality. I have had a couple and have been very happy with them.

Money no consideration? SB all the way. I havent been lucky enough to get hold of one of these beauties yet, but I have played with a couple and they were FINE.

There are no mistakes in that list. Start with NF, USO or Leupold. Buy used. If you don't like it, then sell it and move on to something else. It's a great way to try'em out. You'll make a little or loose a little but they hold their value.

If you've got the cash, then use what the Marines are using (as near as you can).

Uhhh, it appears that you failed to read my signature...I do, in fact need a job.

Since the questions I asked are going unanswered, I will use my go to recomendation...Nightforce. and I don't currently own one. What I am using has no bearing on what I should recommend, else I could be accused of being a fan boy or justifying my purchase or whatever.

Nightforce makes top end optics that are pretty much indestructable. They do not make the scope I need though...that's the thing what I need will not be the same thing as what anybody else does. That's why we need to know what someone wants out of their scope before telling them what they should buy.

Which is best is just to open ended.
