Polland Discussion: Bolt or Semi precision rifle?

I had a Rem 700PSS .308 which could outshoot me - 0.375" at 175 yards was real with this rifle. Also had a .223 Rem700 VS, Great shooter.

But since I'm happy with 0.50 - 0.75 MoA, I've sold both and went exclsuively semi. Modularity of the AR platform and functionality of a semi are more what I want.

What's your requirements?

To answer your poll, I like both.

You have a front buis and no rear buis. Can you shoot well with just the front, or are you going to put a rear on it sometime?

I only ever shoot them scoped.

That, and other projects are sucking up any money, so rear BUIS get prioritized down.

i have a bushmaster lower with a rra two stage nm trigger, with a rra 20" predator pursuit upper. i have a Leupold mark 2 6-18 on it with a larue mount, stock free float tube....ever since i put this rifle together a few months ago it has been the only rifle i have shot. i want to do a lot more to it, but my street/strip car has taken priority in the cash department lately.

i love my gap's, my Remington's, and savage...but they haven't left the safe ever since i built this AR.

I really have no preference but my CLE upper shoots unbelievably... and plan on shooting the next 600 yd. f-class match with it.

Requirements without a mission?

Although, I believe there is a spectrum somewhere in the middle where these two weapon systems might overlap...I've yet to shoot a semi that can do what I need my bolt gun to do.

My game are these Tactical/Sniper matches...I do feel that Semi's have come a long way as far as being reliable and accurate...it's just that the guy's I shoot against are surgical and the conditions are often less than optimal. I need the most accurate weapon system. Rapid fire follow up shots (which is the major plus of the semi's for me) don't really come into play as much as one might think during a two or three day match.

Our team is researching a semi that can meet certain requirements now and if it works then the semi might make it into the lineup.

But for now...Bolt gun...custom...w/ pricey glass

You make a fair observation.

Its just that there's too many missions / drivers for the decision between bolt and semi, so I figgered I'd let people define their own.

Which you did, for yourself, very nicely, and that's exactly what I'm looking for.
