Pollimer 80% lowers

So I picked one of these up just for kicks. It's an 80% pollimer lower the thing about this the internals are milled out but than filled with a whit plastic and all the holes that need to be drilled are marke as well. It's one if those things where because it's pollimer you should be able to finish it at home with minimal tooling.

I have an end mill but I think I'm going to go at this one with my smallest cheapest drill press. Just to see what happens. I don't know when il do it but I'll post pics when I do

I did not pay $100 for mine and I don't know how many I can get at the price I pay.. because there is no FFL required for these it may be easy to set up a group buy.
I will talk to the friend I got mine from he orders several hundred at a time so he obviously gets a better price.



I haven't done any thing to mine yet so I don't really know first hand how hard the white plastic is to remove.. The guy I got it from did one by hand with a hand drill and a dremmel and he was able to do it. He said it took a little while and he really had to pay attention but It can be done.. he sad that drilling the holes for the pins on the receiver was the stressful part. he did his by hand I'm going to use my smallest crappy tale top drill press for the first one the other 3 I will do on the end mill.. the hole for the handle is drilled but you have to tap it polymer is easy to tap

there are plenty of places to get 80% aluminum but milling them out is a pain I did it a few times but you really need an end mill. I think the point of these is any one with half a brain can do it at the kitchen table with a drill a dremmel and a tap.


HOWEVER!!! I cant say that I doesn't bother me just a bit that this does make it quite easy for a felon to get his hands on one. So I am kind of torn on my feelings about it.. Any thoughts on this?

When anyone can head out to Chicago and pick up a Glock on the corner with a loaded magazine for a buck fifty I'm not too worried about 80% lowers falling into the wrong hands. You never know, we might all be felons soon, and I'd rather have an easy way to convert some 80% paperweights into functional weapons.

I find this to be extremely offensive to the shooting community. Did we not just finish a fight against universal background checks? We already know how felons obtain weapons and these polymer lowers provide another outlet for criminals. People who treat guns in the same manner as Cody Wilson should be ostracized and abandoned by gun enthusiasts. No thinking person would support the sale of a firearm, no matter the material, to any person without a background check.

Leaving politics out of this as best I can.

They (Felons) can get them without the background check so either way they can still get them without the Govt able to track so your point is moot. Polymer changes nothing if you talk on the criminal side of the equation.

With ever evolving technology the ease will likely only get easier and Govt to slow to keep up with the pace. Its just a beast to big to move fast enough.

Anyhoo, I'm looking for a more "traditional" looking 80% for a Mattel prototype build. All the polymer 80%s I've seen so far have been rather angular looking, many with large logos molded in, whereas I'm going for a more squared-off plain look. Oh well, I'm sure these will be hot sellers.

Actually, that one doesn't look too bad, the trigger guard threw me off.

An 80% lower isn't a firearm, and it's perfectly legal to build a 100% lower out of an 80% lower. If you don't like it, take it up with the ATF or Congress.

On top of that this isn't something new, they've been around for a long time. Can you cite a source showing they're being used in crimes?

i support the sales of firearms without background checks every time i sell them to family, friends and people i work with that also work in the government

These are just pieces of plastic as deamed by the ATF, and most criminals are way to lazy or stupid to do the work to build one, they would rather go steal peoples firearms that arent locked up.

As far as my concerns about a felon getting one... They were minimal most if not all criminals always choose the path of least resistance. its probably easier to buy one on the street or steel one

My apologies. I was unaware that 80% lowers are not classified as firearms. However, I think I could provide a rather convincing argument as to why they should be. I reject the premise that criminals are too lazy to perform the necessary machining if the need arose. I also didn't think I would have to specify that my comment was directed towards eplowers.com. I don't care that people sell firearms to their non-criminal friends and family members. Please don't misinterpret my comments. My main concern is that people who have proven themselves unworthy not be allowed access to weapons.

I would like to add that taking away the 2nd amendment rights of law abiding citizens isn't a workable solution.

I'm interested in 80% lowers because it looks like fun to complete them. I've assembled a bunch of ARs but never an 80%. Also, there's no 4473. No paper trail and the way things are going that might be a good thing.

What people think makes them better is that they are unregistered. When you manufacture a long-arm, depending on the state you live in, you do not have to DROS it. There are a lot of small rules about manufacturing your own firearms that I won't go into, but suffice it to say that the Gov doesn't have the same paper trail on these as a rifle made by a DPMS.

I don't have a particular problem with having to get a background check before getting a gun, but I see this as an unlikely avenue for the average criminal to travel in order to possess a gun (not to mention a .308 upper ain't cheap). A prohibited person would be breaking the law just by making one anyway.

I have quite a few aluminum lowers billet and cast some I bought for as little as $45. By the time you do the transfer it will cost you another $35-$50. So you will still have near or more than $100 into a finished lower. So is $100 realy that far off from having to transfer a finished lower through an FFL? For some people it just the fun of doing it. Than you have the aluminum foil hat guys that will buy 100 of them an burry them in the woods some where and never finish a single one. People are motivated for different reasons. Mine is strictly hobby.

There's some satisfaction to be had from finishing your own, but it's not for everyone.

My LGS has ATI Omni polymer lowers on the shelf for $39.95 + tax. No transfer fees. They're pretty good about that if they can get what I want through they're suppliers. Otherwise it's a $20 transfer fee, which I don't mind. Gotta keep their lights on.

They are not that hard to finish if you have a jig and a small drill press and the right bits, all of which you can get from harbor freight super cheap.
