Another good choice would be William Kirk, the director of Washington Gun Law, a Seattle based legal firm with decades of expertise fighting for gun rights and shielding armed citizens who have used lethal force to protect life and property. The requirements for ATF director, if that institution cannot be abolished entirely, should be A: Near perfect understanding of Constitutional law as well as criminal law and how to apply discretion, and B: Support for the shooting world and the gun owner community, not support for antigun advocates.
The existence of that institution should be to combat violent crime and trafficking of weapons to entities hostile to the USA, not barrel lengths and firearms accessories...
