My step father was 32nd degree. I think his official religion was Episcopalian and far as i know thats basically Church of England in America. I could be way off on that never researched it.
If he had any devil worshipping tendencies he his them well.

A quick survey of a few of these names did confirm they passed recently, although none of the ones I looked at had any sort of COD mentioned. BTW, you want to experience surreal, go to an amputee support group event. After the booze starts flowing, everyone starts talking about their prosthetics and 'this arm has the best craftsmanship of any I've had' and 'the sockets on my legs are a new technology'. Next thing you know, you're passing a below knee leg to your left, an arm to your right, and a full leg across the aisle.
I'd agree the vast majority are not involved in any kind of subversion. But can see how it might used as a large resource pool to recruit from for those that are.
