So your kids won't.You have a point. I’d say it’s probably one of the last few industries where we have a chance to keep the CCP from taking over.
I will say that it’s hard to source it all.
If I want to make a box with fasteners, I have to source the following US or non commie items:
Saw
Saw blade
Wrenches for adjustment
Planer
Jointer
Drill
Drill bits
Sander
Sand paper
Wood glue
Fasteners
Screw drivers
Measuring tape
Squares
That’s with power tools
With hand tools:
Saw
Hand planes
Router plane
Wood working vise
Brace
Drill bits
Screw drivers
Chisels
Tape measure
Squares
Wood glue
Fasteners
Sand paper
Now look at cost difference between a Saw Stop and a foreign job.
Look at the cost difference between a Martin jointer and a foreign job
Look at the price difference in hand planes. A Lie Nielsen 5 1/2 jack plane will buy the inventory of shitty Chinese hand planes at lowes.
One Lie Nielsen chisel will buy 7 sets of big box chisels.
So look at the investment in tools to make a simple wood box using all American or non commie shit. Then add in the hours of time.
So I get it why people do buy foreign. Some have a hard time making ends meet.
