Fucking with urbanites packed into fragile and overcrowded cities with lots of cameras and witnesses is one thing... Fucking with rural and suburban folks who may own significant patches of land with access to wetlands, digging equipment, booby traps, lethal snares and the means to build them, and other means of effectively concealing evidence of "pest control"... does not sound like a smart or healthy move to me. It is not a matter of how or how much, but the will to go that far. And if just some individuals possess the will to go that far, it will cause absolute chaos in the system. My aunt in Shanghai tells me that at least TWO quarantine enforcers were killed early on, even though state media never reported it or tried to brush it off as "rumors", and that most likely had caused the "no exceptions" lockdown to be turned into a "three tier system" after the third week. Just two. And that was able to cause a ripple higher up. What if it was 200 or more, with more vanishing and never showing up to their posts again, only to be found bloated like whales, blackened, and rotting in hidden places a month later?
