There were plenty of published voices out there about the things FDR was doing that was killing the American farmer and small business. It was the first time the word corporatism was used. They chose safety over the Constitution; that means they were willing to sacrifice tomorrow's freedom for today's security. For that they are responsible.

Regarding the young person becoming indoctrinated - that falls squarely upon the shoulders of their parents for not teaching them BEFORE they got to that point AND allowing it to happen. Again, it goes back to the older generation not taking care of business.
Huh, interesting. I've never seen those political cartoons before. And it's been probably seventy years since they were drawn. Do you think they were in the grubby newspapers front center for people to see during FDR's terms?

And you honestly believe older generations could get their mind around whats being taught in schools and universities today where teachers tell their students on Zoom classes to not allow their parents to see what they're being taught? Did your parents keep you out of school to prevent that?

Yes, they were front and center. There was massive ongoing debate about his corporatism, attempts at packing the supreme court and other activities. There were many who called him out, and this is one of the reasons he wanted to pack the supreme court - so he could push through what he wanted.

Yes, I do honestly believe that they could wrap their mind around the events of their time if they chose to. Unless you are saying that they were too stupid to understand, which I do not believe. And if that IS what you are saying then we indeed have a problem - that by extension means that the founding fathers were ignorant buffoons as well and that the Constitution cannot be trusted because they didn't have Tang, Fox News or the internet with 50 billion people giving their personal opinions. My point with this is its not always education but education mixed with wisdom. It seems to me that whenever wisdom is absent shit goes sideways with a quickness. The world FOR SURE lacks wisdom now and the availability of information is not what's missing in the decision tree of most humans.

I have the textbooks from the 20's used in Dallas. They were not ignorant by any stretch, and I will submit that they had a far better grasp of the English language and reading comprehension than many do today. What they were required to understand at the grade school level would cause an absolute uproar today it is so involved.

Stupid? No thats not what I said. Don't fabricate and make up more bullshit.

I've already stated, repeatedly, why previous generations were in the dark on national and world events and you choose to ignore that and try to imply I said it was because previous generations were stupid. Do you work for CNN?

Nope, dont work for CNN. And they were not in any darkness other than what they personally chose.

Look at the cartoon. It's the exact same arguments we hear today. Only difference is that it's now readily visible what they did by not staying vigilant. And people still vote the same way.

And you really believe this was foremost on people's minds and they 'chose' to ignore this when they were travelling the country looking for any migrant job, from picking grapes in California to standing in soup lines?

Since the cartoons were so front center, your grandparents and their parents must have seen them. What did they do about it?

The "greatest generation" chose safety over the Constitution; that means they were willing to sacrifice tomorrow's freedom for today's security. There is a direct line from then to now because of the laws that were enacted that are still enforced, along with the huge number of liberal leaning kids and piss poor politicians that followed. For that they are absolutely responsible.

It started with Woodrow Wilson, but really started before the ink was dry on the Constitution.

It absolutely was on people's minds, the same way Hoovervilles were during the previous administration. Again, what they chose was security over the Constitution. If you are giving them a pass for not choosing the Constitution then there should be absolutely no surprise why people are making the same choice today, only for much smaller and less justifiable reasons.

My family was working their farms, doing without and going to war. Same as many others.

One of the things that has to be remembered too is that much of the depression was caused by an overheated economy and runaway stock market euphoria. That I can attribute to lack of knowledge to a good degree, although there were many at the time who were warning against this as well, but again no one listened so they got what they got.

My father told the story of his father, screaming at the radio while FDR did his fireside chats. People cared but they were a lone voice.
My mom, as a little girl on a hardscrabble farm in S. Texas, said my grandfather did the same thing reading the newspaper. Not sure which party he was cussing, as Democrats were the working class back then.

Yeah, I'm giving them a pass. You push the idea people had a choice back then and chose to stand down and not do anything when their only real 'choice' was starving or surviving the Depression.

They didn't have the luxury of sitting in front of a computer in A/C, eating Doritos and Monday morning QB'g. Thats like people blaming whitey for stealing the land from the Indians.

The Greatest Generation did a helluva job turning this country around. I don't think you critics and second guessers have it in you to replicate their resolve and accomplishments. You see whats going on today, an election stolen in 2020 on camera; undeniable proof with the numbers to back it up there was a coup that overthrew the government. Why do you choose to allow it?

I'm going to disagree with the first sentence of this while probably agreeing with your second one.

I personally don't see them as the greatest generation - that was a Tom Brokaw book, and he is a socialist to the very core of his being. Did they live through very trying times? No doubt. They definitely caught it on the chin. But they were not the first and they won't be the last. Going through tough times doesn't make you great enough to not vote properly, nor does it make you a complete villain - those who ran roughshod over them fill that role. I rather see that generation as a group who managed to live through it, not a group that was endowed with anything special. They did things right - got off their asses at a minimum, which I find very admirable and had a moral structure that was better than ours by a long shot. But normal nonetheless. To give them idol-worshipping status is to not clearly see where they went wrong and learn from it. Fixing it may never happen, unfortunately, as the tentacles of bureaucracy run deep.

Tom Brokaw didn't coin the phrase the Greatest Generation, he merely capitalized on it.

One of the Greatest Generation, which I admire greatly, biggest problem when volunteering for service to go fight for America was being underweight and undersize, literally stunted from malnutrition. Contrast that today with many recruits being obese and having to be put on special diets.

I don't have the time or inclination to point out all the differences of today's generation and those of the past.

Like I said many times in the past, we will need a new generation of tech savvy saboteurs to infiltrate, paralyze, and destroy this shit. "Networked" worlds are extremely fragile.
This is truth. Generic circuit boards shorting out, backup power packs inop, antennas broken or covered or turned, a nagging software issue, all with the network overseen by careerists who climbed by confirming along with only a rudimentary understanding of the tech side. Devil is in the details.

What I read is that the signature harvesters collected invalid signatures to deliberately cause this to happen. More dirty tricks. I doubt this will be end of it and no doubt lawsuits will follow to have them placed on the ballot.

Generally the election offices are TERRIBLE about verifying signatures on anything.

If they got this done in this timeframe at this scale they told their office to hammer the Republicans and ignore the Dems....OR it was a setup.
